tess monaghan may be one of the most annoying characters in fiction. she’s weak, unintelligent, non-motivated individual and when she started to critize herself it made me dislike her even more. i can’t imagine her solving any crimes on her own. how laura lippman managed a series with her is beyond me. needless to say, i will not be reading the other books in the series.

WORTH CONSUMING!

this was our book club book for april. i am a huge fan of older, gritty, detective novels, as this one was pegged. i didn’t really like this book at first. to me it was an odd little book. i feel i am pretty open minded about everything and i still thought cora was nuts! the more i thought about the book and the more we discussed it at book club the more i found i liked it. frank and cora’s relationship was brutally honest, “i was trying to figure out how i would kill you.” the ending completely shocked me. it was like i hit a brick wall.(it actually made me gasp when i was reading it).
i think you should read it, if for only the fact it was banned in boston for the explicit sexuality and violence. besides, it’s short- about 100 pages.

WORTH CONSUMING!

panicked when i hadn’t used the whole tub and the due date came. ended up slathering the rest on my face and neck so i wouldn’t waste it. this has been the second mask i’ve tried from lush. the first was just lettuce. it was ok, but i found afterward it took my face a bit to get back to normal after i was done using it. might have just been a coincidence but my complexion got really dry and almost dull looking.

WORTH CONSUMING!

story about a guy who converts an old diesel mercedes to run on used vegetable oil and drives from vermont to california with his friend to see if they can make it. they do, and have many interesting stops along the way. informative, funny, quick read.

WORTH CONSUMING!

interesting read. thought it was really cool that the founders of greasecar were from easthampton, ma. i live in ma. and automatically feel a kinship to other people from here. made me want to convert a car to run on veggie oil. funny, anectodal. i liked how they had side adventures. i learned a lot from this book, which surprised me. the first drive across the u.s., how i would so work at google for all the perks, wind power, solar power, and many others. one of my favorite parts of the book was when the biker gave them a thumbs-up because they smelled like french fries.

A story about "All Pets Go To Heaven: The Spiritual Lives of the Animals We Love" — 34 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i like sylvia brown. i have been to see her and am going again in june for her farewell tour. being an animal lover i had to know if all my previous pets, from this life and past lives, would be with me when i pass. i’m happy to report that not only will they be there, some will even meet you when you cross. the book was interesting, but like her other books, it tended to repeat itself in many places. she had added native american sayings randomly throughout the book which i thought was a nice touch. some were very moving. at times i struggled with how much i actually believed, my faith does waver, but i wanted to believe and isn’t that what it’s all about? that little bit of comfort. i kept thinking how i would feel if one of my past pets came back and i saw them. would it freak me out? would i be happy? i don’t know and here’s to hoping one day i get the chance to find out.

apparently when it's 119 degrees out you don't sweat that much...it must be a dry heat — 34 weeks ago

brendan fraser just doesn’t do it for me anymore. come to think of it, he never has. the movie did peek my interest into reading the book though, which is a pretty good thing.
