However, found Click to be a funny and humourous movie along the lines of Scrooge. An entertaining watch for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

by Gore Verbinski

Captain Jack Sparrow is back!

With more SFX, more of the extremely lovable Jack Sparrow and more characters thrown into the mix of supernatural lore, Dead Man’s Chest is a fun voyage.

A couple of grips though (spoiler alert):
The funny one-liners and witty remarks are lacking in this sequel to Curse of the Black Pearl. The pithy exchanges between Jack and Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush) was one of the main reason for Curse’s success. In Dead Man’s Chest, there is no one that is able to adequately rise to the challenge.
Dead Man’s Chest is also a tad too long. Certain parts could have been better edited.
Am also not sure about the budding love triangle between Jack, Will and Elizabeth – or maybe I’m just jealous ;)

It’s still lots of fun though and the highlight is still Captain Jack and his escapades. Although in this one, he does find himself in situations where he is unable to talk himself out of trouble. Davy Jones and his crew look great and the Flying Dutchman is impressive. Dead Man’s Chest is essentially the middle part of the trilogy so it does feel slightly unsatisfactory when it ends. However, the unexpected return of Barbosa almost makes up for it though.

So with the return of Barbosa, the love triangle and the rescue of Jack Sparrow, the final installment At World’s End looks set to end the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy with a big bang.

Like Water for Chocolate - the Teens way

The basic premise is of the coolguy-hotchick-fatguy love triangle with the added complication of the 2 guys being best friends despite appearances. The fatguy is unable to announce his love for hotchick and so vicariously demonstrates it by helping his friend ie. coolguy, seduce (although since this is a teen read its a PG-rated seduction) hotchick with glorious food. Each chapter is headed with a name of a recipe which is then included at the end of the chapter.
Flavor of the Week, is definitely suited for teens as its a light read. For adults, it would be a little too superficial. The recipes, however, seem nice. I may want to give a few a try.

Some of the more interesting recipes are homemade fig cookie bar thingies, spicy tomato soup, pepitas, and a menu set for sudcing called aphrodisia which includes spice-dusted figs, arugulan and blood orange, chocolate bonbons, and ginger-candied violets.

Even better, it is now halal, so no probs there.
Anyway, was left to fend for myself over the wkend so decided to order in. The pizzas had a 1-for-1 deal so tried the Chicken Ham & Shitake, and a new pizza Sausage, Cheese & Tomato. Also tried the Korokke (aka croquettes).
The food took about 45 min to be delivered but arrived piping hot so tat was ok. Preferred the Sausage Cheese pizza over the Chicken Ham. The croquettes were quite nice too – soft sweet potato with a crispy outer layer. Want to try the Unagi (eel) one next.

On the good side, DZH has an impressive line-up of stars such as Amitabh Bachan, Anil Kapoor and Arjun Rampal, while the atmosphere for the entire film was consistent and creepy, without resorting to CGI and SFX as is often found in Hollywood horror films. Unfortunately, the stories themselves are little to fleeting for me although they had good material to explore. DZH is like a good horror story-telling around the campsite. A good watch!

Similiar in concept to movies such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Wrong Turn, Wolf Creek does not offer anything new to the genre. However, having said that it is better than some of the other movies that are of the same theme, mainly due to the new-ness of the Outback as a location and the chillingly real feel of the movie. The characters are fairly one-dimensional and stereotypical – a trio of 20somethings who party and get drunk decide to go on a roadtrip to visit the Wolf Creek crater and find themselves at the hands of a psycho Crocodile Dundee. A fairly watchable.

Brett Ratner takes over from Bryan Singer and does a decent job. With an awesome climax, the movie is fast-paced. Unfortunately, it’s at the expense of the characters. More mutants are introduced but few are well-developed. A good end to the trilogy…or is it the end?

Mystery in Provence (rated 4 stars)

Throw in a charming inspector, clever pig and a bunch of hippies, this makes for a fun read to spend a lazy afternoon.

Why I recommend "Satay"

Satay

One of the best known Malay dishes in Asia. There are many variations e.g. Thai, Indonesian and Malaysian. Basically, marinated pieces of meat are skewered onto thin wooden sticks and barbecued. Served with spicy peanut sauce, cooling cucumber, onions and some compressed rice called ketupat. Yummy! One of the best places to try this in Singapore is at Lau Pa Sat, an open-air eatery in the heart of the CBD area.
