I liked these tales a lot. Chaucer’s tales put into a modern context are an extremely attractive package. I read some of the Canterbury tales whilst at uni and found that Chaucer was a very cheeky and quite political writer for his time. I like adaptations that are brought up to date as they are made accessible to a modern audience and it helps to stop all the elitism that goes on in the acedemic world. Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet had a similar effect. I know so many young people who enjoyed this because they could understand and relate to it and they would never have attempted to look at Shakepeare’s original works in any other form… So it’s all good stuff in my eyes :)
