You need a professional kitchen to cook like a professional chef — 1 year ago

Many of the tools and ingredients called for in these gourmet recipes, making it rather complicated to cook. One example: chef’s torch. The book has nice photos though!

Sophie Calle is worth consuming! But... — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Sophie Calle is worth consuming! But this book gives a half-glimpse at some of her work. I wish it was a full retrospective.

Why I recommend "The Helsinki School" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s very nice to see a bound collection of contemporary, foreign photography artists that are just beginning their careers. My peers, essentially.

Pasi Autio, Wilma Hurskainen, Nelli Palomaki, and Saana Wang were my favorites from this collection.

A story about the last time I consumed "Dracula" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read the annotated version (Leonard Wolf) and even though the notes gave major plot keys away before they happened in the story, I understood so much more of the story than if I had read a normal version. It was bittersweet.

It is such a good suspense-filled story that I will probably read it again before I die. Also, I am now fully equipped to deal with a vampire attack, should the occasion ever arise.

A story about "Witness Number 7" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was in the “new books” section of my library, and I had been looking for books of architectural photography. When I read it, I learned that the photos were taken in the early 1990’s, but their content is so relevant to right now that I thought they had been taken last year.

Really gorgeous photos, and proves that walls do speak.

Why I recommend "Eva Hesse Drawing" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I LOVEEVAHESSE!

This book has so many images that really reveal her working style. It’s so helpful to see a conceptual artist’s process opened up like that. I’ve started to adopt some of her habits as my own.

The works, even scribbles and rough sketches are beautiful.

Handy Reference Guide — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read this book for my typography class, and it explains things that appear to be “common sense” for experienced designers but a mystical mystery to everyone else. It’s good to keep around as a guide that is probably quicker than trying to find an answer on the internet.

The Characters are Endearing — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The novel moves quickly, a little too quickly at times. To help slow the pace, there are subtle vignettes that allude to the atmosphere of feelings; these are delicate, thoughtful, and fine-tuned. I liked this book mostly because of the characters.

A story about "$20 Per Gallon: How the Inevitable Rise in the Price of Gasoline Will Change Our Lives for the Better" — 2 years ago

Worth skimming, but if you read an interview of the author about the book, you’d probably glean just as much information as you might retain from the book.

A little bit of everything — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book touches on everything that has anything to do with ceramics. It’s a handy guide to keep in the beginning ceramist’s studio.
