A Widow for One Year

One of those fabulous Costco book table purchases. This is my favourite of all of John Irving novels (it was also the first novel of his that I read). His characters are still conflicted… but not in such an odd way that they are unidentifable.

The best element of the book… the photographs of the two boys.

This novel was recently made into a feature film called “A Door in the Floor” with Jeff Bridges. I was disappointed with what I saw of the film, but that was to be expected.

A friend recommended this book to me. I quite enjoyed Sedaris’ perspective and witty commentary of his life. I’ve also borrowed Holidays on Ice from the same friend and hope that it is also a very drole read.

Holidays on Ice: Stories

Sedaris’ “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim” was far superior and much funnier. The stories tended to be a little long and tedious (for short stories that is). Santaland Diaries was the best of the book, and I’m glad that it was at the beginning otherwise I might not have read continued reading it.
