A story about "Mrs. Dalloway" — 1 year ago
If you have read and liked The Awakening, then you will probably like this. It is a novel that is significant for its time period.

I am torn on this ….I thought it was predictable, too idealistic, but at the same time it is a fable. Worth reading because it has potential to impact in a positive way.
I do think this is the greatest children’s book (no exaggeration). I read obsessively as a child, but this is one book that I have never forgotten. I remember his adventures, his impressions, his loneliness, his curiosity – and as an adult I now see how European children classics have small and large meanings embedded in them, because I love it for other reasons now. I also watched the cartoon growing up, and it equals the book in my opinion. I am already planning on buying this book for my little niece, who will not be born until Spring 2008!
I agree with the entry that says “this is one of those books you will never forget.” I loved this book and have not ever forgotten it. It takes you back to childhood, the feelings, the memories, and then it takes a turn…
It makes you think. Along the lines of the advice to
“think of how you would like people to think of you at your funeral”
It is life – it happened—definitely worth its time.
I don’t think at the time that I really “enjoyed” this book, so much as came to appreciate the theme in time. I would probably have not gotten so much out of it if I had not had a great English teacher in high school, because even though the theme is obvious, it takes additional commentary (i.e. reading the cliff notes as well) to bring the full meaning to life. I would definitely recommend reading it and then getting cliff notes/or finding additional info on it as well!
I read Angels and Demons before the Da Vinci Code, and was really let down with the Da Vinci Code after reading this book. I loved the characters and storyline – I had trouble putting it down. Da Vince Code required more effort for me to finish.
Interesting theme. In my opinion, it provides a topic that I have reflected on many times since – ie. when I first watched Apocalypse Now, when I had a friend come back from Iraq – the breakdown of human beings outside of civilized society, while extreme in this fictional novel, it’s a theme that is true. Worth reading!
One of my favorite books of all time. Definitely worth reading!
