Why I recommend "Stupid Sock Creatures: Making Quirky, Lovable Figures from Cast-off Socks" — 25 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

What is not to love? But what i liked the most about this book is that it made me want to make some creatures and the writing and illustrations were clear and approachable enough that i actually did. Now I’m addicted!

Ugly Technology — 30 weeks ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I had really high hopes and expectations for this book. I have been intrigued by the collaborations between art and technology I have seen which have elevated the art form beyond “computer art”. The projects presented here remind me of the old-style computer art, clunky and visually lacking. The book seemed overly focused on the technical factor rather than on the aesthetics. I understand that they are gearing the book to enable people to actually be able to do the projects, but it would have been nice to have a gallery section to show what could be accomplished after getting the basics down.

I hope they will have a follow-up with some input from fashion designers.

Angry Black White Boy, prepare to have your mind bent — 35 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

no matter what your race and no matter where you stand on issues of race this book will mess with your mind. It is smart, funny and deeper than you realize at first. It makes you question more than race, it makes you question what it is to be human.

Psychic Mystery Junk Food — 35 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I work nights and on a slow night there is nothing better than a good mystery to make the time go by faster.

This is not fine literature, but it is great for what it is. Kay Hooper writes a series of mysteries featuring an FBI team made up of people with various psychic abilities. It in an interesting premise and is portrayed fairly believably. The books are written in trilogies of three. This one is part of the “Blood” trilogy and one of the most gripping so far of the books of hers I have read.
