I purchased this at the excellent chocolate exhibit this spring at Atlanta’s Fernbank Science Museum. The illustrations in this book follow the museum exhibits. There is an execllent history of the development, description of how the plant moved around the world. Plants and individual products are well covered. I strongly recommend this. It would go well at a party or event that featured chocolate as part of the menu.

I purchased this book because I would like to write a mystery series based in Antigua. It is a perfect place for plots dealing wtih drugs, offshore banking, love and betrayal under the sun, smuggling, you name it. I have an idea for a major detective, his side kicks, one very serious the other happy go lucky, both early 20s and an older nemesis who knows and sees everything, maybe alive, maybe not.

This book suggests that you get a plot first, then people it with characters. Write out their biographies, add characters, and then move along by such things as “how the hero/detective is tested again and finally succeeds.”

I haven’t advanced any futher with this mystery series, but hope to do so soon and in doing so, use this book as a guide.
