mavrick is a gambler. He’s also a perfect shot, the fastest draw, and can beat up an entire town dingle handed. Suprman might be able to fight him to a draw.
So where is the challenge? He’s entirely arrogant, too. It doesn’t help that he is played by the arrogant Gibson. Mel can’t help seeming arrogant. It’s what he does best.
No one cares what happens. Maverick can do anything. So why doesn’t he just beat up a town and take their money? It doesn’t make any sense.

You know a movie is terrible when you’re expected to root for the hero, but you root for the bad guys instead. Gibson’s haughtiness is only part of the problem. His character’s haughtiness is the main problem, and that is due to poor writing. The movie gives the impression of not messing with the wrong guy, that he is superior for some reason. That’s a myth that everyone in power would love to keep going. If someone says they like this movie, you’ll know why. But it is a myth, and it does send out the message of keeping the haves as haves and the have nots as have nots. That’s America.
A bomb.

This movie is about two men who are supposed to be different, trying to stop a terrorist. Trouble is, the two men are completely alike in every way. They are completely perfect, with no flaws, and have never had a challenge in their lives. They make Superman look like Don Knotts. So of coourse, this movie is boring. There is never any challenge. It’s like letting Batman and Superman kill. Ho hum.

Which they both did. Terrible characters. Terrible script. Impossible to like this movie.

You really can’t save a terrible script. We are expected to travel along with a character on a space adventure. However, the character is so blatantly arrogant and vicious, we cannot possibly care one whit about his experiences, nor would we believe a word he said. It is unwatchable garbage.

This movie is about a man who learns how to con people, and take all their money. He also murders two people along the way, one of them with malice, by poison. He then turns into a geek. For some reason, we are supposed to care about him, but it is never explained why. he has no saving grace. Neither does the movie. Impossible to identify with the character, or to care.

A good movie may often begin with stereotypes and turn them into characters, the way “Rocky Horror” did. However, this movie makes the mistakes of taking five characters and turning them into stereotypes. It fails dismally.
I can’t understand any person liking this movie, unless it is a woman. Women do like this, since the males are stereotyped the worst. Mechanics will like it, too, since the hero is a mechanical type, and all studious types and jocks are treated with contempt.
It is obviously told from the point of view of the one played by the tall, dark haired, good looking guy. The others are all wimps next to him, and he wins all arguments. He is always in the right, and he stereotypes all his classmates. This wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for him being so spoiled, having everything he could want.
I know only a few people who could have been stereotyped into categories. Most people were multi-purpose. This is one of the worst movies of all time.

In fact, that;s all this is. It isn’t a bit subtle. Hitler and Mengele would have lauded this director-writer team and held banqu;ets for them. The entire story is just killing every dark eyed, dark haired woman you can find, and explaining it as natural. Of course all blond women are safe from harm. The director hammers his Nazi ideals over your head. It is thinly disguised as a story about werewolves, but there is not subtlety at all. Only for the diehard Nazi, or for a woman who lost her boyfriend to a brunette.

The great Simon and Garfunkel music falls flat against a story that neither relates to the music, nor contrasts it. It doesn’t make a bit of sense. The music doesn’t match the mood at all.
It makes for a good thirty second break room joke, having sex with your girlfriend’s mother. This movie is longer than thrity seconds, and it shows. Nothing else is added on of any value.
Instead of being happy about sex, we’re supposed to believe a man is angry because he has sex. You’re right. This doesn’t make any sense. I’ve had sex with sisters, and I was happy. I’m sure it would be the same with a mother. Big deal! This character is terribly written.
Add to this that we are expected to care about this idiot? Why? And why should we pull for him instead of the other guy, of whom all we know is that he is marrying the daughter, and they seem to hit it off? No sane person would care about the Hoffman character getting the daughter. In fact, it would be better all around for him to move on and find someone else. If he stays with the daughter, they all may as well be Jerry Springer trash.
In fact, none of the characters make a bit of sense. It is one of the worst scripts in History.
