Well, it took me almost the entire nine weeks of library renewals to read this sucker. That reflects more on my current lifestyle than on the quality of the book. It is a neat scifi novel.

Baxter writes ‘hard’ scifi, in that there is always a healthy dose of real science in the foundations of his books, even if they shoot off into pure speculation from there. This hard scifi book is nice in that it explores the science of biology, sociology and evolution.

I read this over a few days after my daughter read it. She was on the verge of tears but couldn’t tell me why, except that it reminded her of a dead family pet. No spoilers…
