A story about "False Memory" — 5 years ago

Koontz is one of those light-reading authors I’ve come to rely on when filling in the gaps between serious reading. I’m not far enough into this to rate it, but it has the earmarks of his likable protagonists of the past.

Sorry, this one is the first Koontz book I’ve left unfinished. It didn’t hit the right notes I usually hear from his writing.

A story about "The King's Coat (Alan Lewrie Naval Adventures (Paperback))" — 5 years ago

Another nautical yarn, this time with a less upright hero than Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey and Maturin…

A story about "Stalin : The Court of the Red Tsar" — 5 years ago

Not enough material to comment as yet.

A story about "Between the Strokes of Night" — 5 years ago

Meant to be one of my summer ‘vacation’ books, it’s a leftover I started before the current stack of library books arrived.

A story about "Dead Lines (Bear, Greg)" — 5 years ago

A twist for Greg Bear, a horror novel. Good, though the ending few pages were kind of weak.

A story about "Ghost in the Shell" — 4 years ago

Despite the cover illo reminiscent of cheesecake calendar art, this is a manga collection of the thoughtful and eccentric work of Masamune Shirow. I started manga with his Appleseed decades ago, and this is just as good.

Finished. Well worth the money.

A story about "Vitals" — 4 years ago

After reading Deadlines, I decided to read another of Bear’s more recent novels, as he’s tilting toward metaphysical thrillers now. This differs from the last time I was reading his stuff, when Eon was hot (super-science-fiction, sensawunder stuff).

So I’ve finished it, and while I enjoyed the journey, I was quite disappointed in the destination. He spent so much time laying out the conspiracy that everything sort of deflated in the end. Yes, I understood the vague narrative collapse, I just didn’t like it.

A story about "Broken Angels" — 4 years ago

Another good sci-fi-noir tale. Sophomore effort worth reading.

A story about "The Outlaw Sea: A World of Freedom, Chaos, and Crime" — 4 years ago

The first chapter is engrossing. The story of a tramp freighter on it’s last legs, foundering in a storm.

A story about "Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries)" — 4 years ago

Trailer Trash Vampires (an unfair characterization, as I’ve only just begun, but there are trailer parks ;^)~
