A story about "Morality for Beautiful Girls (No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency (Paperback))" — 5 years ago

“Read” this one on audio cd, and it was a wonderful driving book. The flow of the the story and nature of the characters calmed me down while speeding down the highway.

A story about "Something Rotten: A Thursday Next Mystery" — 5 years ago

A new Fforde book gets the same sort of reaction from me as Harry Potter … internal squealing and excitement.

Very, very good. I’m starting to wonder what kinds of drugs Fforde takes .

A story about "The Murder Room" — 5 years ago

I did like this book, and it was a great British mystery in the whole long tradition of British mysteries. There were times where the Sayers-esque detail made me want to pull my teeth out, but still worth it.

Found this one on audio cd. I’m liking it quite a bit, and I’m discovering that I really like Charles Keating’s readings.

A story about "Temporary Insanity" — 5 years ago

Eh. It was okay, and at least the actress as main character was different. Everything else could be seen a mile away, though.

A clever, funny book. Another Red Dress, Ink book, but worth reading.

A story about "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell: A Novel" — 5 years ago

I wasn’t all eaten up with this book. It was interesting and fascinating in its way, but in a mild sort of way. Maybe that’s just an effect of the narrative style. Good book, just not overly compelling for me.

It’s more Austen than Jane and less Dickens than Charles, but it’s still taking me a little bit of effort to get involved.

A story about "A Place of Hiding" — 4 years ago

Very good, and I’m glad to get more background and characterization from Simon and Deborah. It seemed like the “development” was mostly re-treads of things we’ve already learned from other books.

These books reminded me of what a good author can do. I LOVE these books.

A story about "The Cat Who Killed Lilian Jackson Braun: A Parody" — 4 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Started reading it because it seemed like a fun idea. Was completely disgusted by the flood of unnecessary sexual references in the first few chapters and decided it wasn’t worth it.
