A story about "The Dive From Clausen's Pier: A Novel" — 6 years ago

I’m not quite sure what to think about this book. It’s a good idea for a novel, it’s interesting to explore, and yet … the most interesting parts of the book are the clothing descriptions and the sex scenes. Everyone is so massively irritating and the main characters seem kind of two-dimensional. I don’t know. It kept me reading until the very end, but I think it was because I wanted to find out if anything ever happened.

A story about "Thrones, Dominations (A Lord Peter Wimsey Mystery)" — 6 years ago

I decided to re-read this and see if I liked it any better the second time around. Answer: not really. It feels like a Sayers wannabe attempt, and too many obvious references to other books. I don’t know … it’s a crude imitation of the original. Decent enough story, but it made me so impatient, and that’s something that doesn’t happen with the other Wimsey books.

A story about "The House of Seven Mabels: A Jane Jeffry Mystery (Jane Jeffry Mysteries (Paperback))" — 6 years ago

A new Jane Jeffry mystery. Same sort of format and writing, but still good. A nice “soak in the tub” read.

A story about "Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans" — 6 years ago

Eh.

Double eh.

Cute enough, but I wish my problems in life could be solved with the man of my dreams miraculously falling in love with me, having the money for a glamorous makeover, and exercising myself to death. Whee!

(Eh.)

A story about "Where the Heart Is (Oprah's Book Club)" — 6 years ago

Updated to add: I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and cried after the tornado.

Adelle loaned me this book. So far it’s good. It’s always interesting to me to read books with Southern characters, just to see how we all come across. ;)

A story about "All That Really Matters: Jesus' Simple Plan for a Transformed Life" — 6 years ago

Simple, straightforward talking. I like that in a book.

A story about "Constantine's Sword: The Church and the Jews: A History" — 6 years ago

I bought this book today and began reading it while waiting for a haircut. It’s part of my “I need to start thinking and studying again” initiative.

A story about "Who Says Elephants Can't Dance? Inside IBM's Historic Turnaround" — 6 years ago

It was a gift, but it’s actually an interesting read. I’m getting excited!

A story about "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (Today Show Book Club #8)" — 6 years ago

I call books like these “gentle” books. They’re just so relaxing to the brain because they’re good, simple stories.

A story about "Dead Girls Don't Wear Diamonds: A Blackbird Sisters Mystery (Blackbird Sisters Mysteries)" — 6 years ago

Fun, but not as smooth as I expected … at first. Actually, I have no idea what I really had in mind but this book still surprised me. It was good, though!
