A story about "Enthiran" — 1 year ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Awful movie. For this day and age, appallingly childish graphics.

Sun TV and Rajnikanth has just capitalized on the PR machinery to promote his daughter and in the process rotate some of his Sun TV’s black money.

A senior citizen( Rajnikanth is a doddering old man) dancing around trees with a woman half your age, occasionally having a conversation with a mosquito on which locality it belongs to probably sums up the quality of the film!!!

I am not the kind to spout venom… Waaaa, I want my money back. I should have waited for a pirated DVD… Waaaaa

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Typical Hollywood movie meant for fans of outrageous graphics.

In my opinion, a glorious waste of money and time to watch the movie. A simple summary- The hero outruns earthquakes, tsunamis by driving a van! In the process he saves his dear family and manages to not save his ex wife’s new boyfriend.

I have not watched such trite in a while.

Why I recommend "Where are You Going, You Monkeys?: Folktales from Tamil Nadu" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is a fabulous read for someone who enjoys stories. All the stories were new to me… and every tale was different and definitely not repetitive. Often hilarious and very colourful collection of avenging gods, horny mice, jealous husbands and over-endowed men await you.

The stories are short, crisp and have been translated beautifully. A Tamilian will be able to relate a lot to the way in which a man typically calls his wife -" Adiye,….", etc. ( of course, I do not know a single male who will dare address his wife in that manner) ; )

Some of the explicit language did surprise me; having said that it was translated well. These words are and would have been used in the presented context. had they been removed a lot of flavour and local context would be lost.

Overall, worth reading.

A review of "Iqbal - A Story Above Cricket" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A very nice movie about Cricket. The movie has an air of innocence to it and all the characters involved come across as very realistic. What I am trying to write is, the movie does not seem contrived.

With all the politics and nastiness of Indian cricketing, this movie projects a side of cricket that must have been present a long long time ago; a story of hope, self-worth, talent and sheer determination. Such incidents have happened but alas a long time ago.

Would I recommend it? Certainly. A very light and easy watch.

Do I have any criticism? None

A review of "Vasool Raja MBBS" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Subtle jokes. A Very nice movie if you are looking for all out laughter. Having said that, being fluent in Tamil would help.

A review of "The Afghan" — 5 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The whole book reads like snippets taken out of various newspaper reports articles. It goes on and on…

If one had kept abreast with the news during the peak war/invasion in Afghanistan, the book is like a rehash of it. Two to three pages on the loading, unloading and specification of a missile!

I ended up skimming pages. Waste of money.

Why I recommend "Painted House" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Unusual for a John Grisham book. The story is supposed to be based on Grisham’s own childhood – about a young boys life in rural Arkansas during the early 1950’s.
