I picked up this book due to the fact that I’m a sucker for British history; plus, I hadn’t heard of Arbella before! Definitely looks like an interesting read.
The soundtrack to “Amélie” always makes me feel calm; it transports me to a quieter section of Paris, where the clouds are heavy and grey, and raindrops fall onto cobbles on splash into the Seine; where waterfalls descend off the edges of shiny black umbrellas, and the shop windows turn puddles on sidewalks into great pools of shimmering golden light.
Even though Elizabeth Enright wrote this book - and the others in the series - for children, I still read them once a year. It’s a perfect springtime book, for when the temperature is finally warming up, the leaves are huge, fresh, and fluffy, and the sight of sun making the dew sparkle seems the most beautiful thing in the world.
