Remarkable war film — 3 years ago
This is a great war/human film. My Slovak friend, Ivan, told me this would reveal a lot about the Russian perspective and sacrafice related to WWII. He was spot on.

I could complain about pacing or not-quite-funny parts, but it was definitely worth seeing. Did the steak knife(s) scene slay the audience when you saw this?
This was a truly great documentary which stumbled across it’s intersecting stories without forcing too much or too little meaning out of the events. It’s about basketball, life, class, high school, motherhood, fatherhood, wolves, meese, tropical storms, Seattle and so much more.
As Jason put it, “this is some of the best sci-fi to come out in years”.
Any lingering doubts about global warming can be put to rest by seeing this film and watching the recent ads by the think tank Competitive Enterprise Group (partially funded by Exxon Mobil). The ads are so far fetched that they’ll likely have the reverse effect of bolstering sound global warming science. Just watch the videos.
The Houston Chronicle editorial staff nicely refutes the new CEG campaign.
Someone recommended this to me on All Consuming. It’s really good. A Seattle band none-the-less.
Nobody knows what to do with their money in this flick. The rich couple gives to charities that they have no connection with— through big gala fundraisers. Another couple builds an addition to their house when they only have one kid. All for a view that blocks their neighbor’s house and destroys that relationship. The “poor” maid pays for her deadbeat boyfriend to spend time with her. And the rich guy is a cheapskate. And there’s all sorts of status anxiety, which is right up my alley. Lots of rich bitchin’ in the kitchen!
Specifically, I like Josh for consuming this and recommending it to me. I didn’t think that a mass produced frozen pizza thingy could be so wonderfully balanced in flavor. This is a great 7-10 minutes at 475F food product!
Actually, I don’t recommend it. I almost recommend it because there are some great bizarre moments. Lots of hip guests on this cable access show from 4 years in the late 70s/early 80s. But that couldn’t save it for me. I laughed out loud a few times, but as a whole it was a painful movie to sit through. That being said, I appreciate Glenn O’Brien’s TV Party.
Excellent movie with all sorts of space—long shots and sparse dialog. The director’s commentary was endearing.
