A story about "Nightshade: China Bayles #16 (China Bayles Mystery)" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked how Susan Wittig Albert updated the series by writing from McQuaid’s point of view for a portion of the story. However, I felt some of the novel was awkwardly worded, because of the narration style. I was very happy to finally see a resolution in the mystery of her father, because I felt it had been a hanging plot line for several books.

Heart-warming. One of my favorite books in this series.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The third book in the Walker Papers was superior to the second book which was sort of slow moving. As always lots of metaphysical/vision quest action. A lot is revealed about Joanne’s character.

I really liked this book, my only complaint is I wish the author CE Murphy would come up with a different way to hurt Joanne instead of getting her stabbed every book.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Normally I find MJ Davidson to be hilarious. I love her spunky heroines, but I thought this anthology was poor. Totally forgettable.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Interesting and engaging characters. As usual Stephanie Bond has just enough humor and weirdness factor to make a story likable without going over the top.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The story wasn’t engaging, the characters were boring and the poker advice was tragic.

A story about "Fanged and Fabulous" — 1 year ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Although the author is snarky which I usually like, the humor in this paranormal romance missed for me. The plot was exceptionally predictable and boring. No sizzle between the main characters.

A story about "Death Walked In: A Death on Demand Mystery (Death on Demand Mysteries)" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

(Let me preface this review by saying, I haven’t read a Death on Demand series book by Carolyn Hart since the 90s.) I remember the Death on Demand series being cluttered with fanboy-style rants about other great mystery authors. While I don’t mind a little of this sort of thing, to me it smacks of filler and detracts from what would otherwise be an excellent mystery. I also remember the series being kind of heavy on description. What I found in Death Walks In is a new and improved Carolyn Hart. The author really reeled in Annie’s tangents and the books seemed to be less cluttered with words, giving the novel a more natural flow. Her plots have always been good, even if I figured out who the murderer was early on in the book, I didn’t know who his accomplice was so I really enjoyed the story.
