A story about "Hornblower and the Hotspur (Hornblower Series)"

Hornblower and the Hotspur (Hornblower Series)

by C.S. Forester

Fabulous in the fact that it’s more Hornblower. The interaction between Bush and Hornblower got less, but that’s to be expected as Hornblower surpassed Bush in rank. Captain Pellew makes an appearance for a few chapters, and that makes the book comletely worth it.

A story about "Fantastic Four"

However, Ioan Gruffudd shouldn’t have used that American accent. He doesn’t sound right with it. His own accent is much more lovely.

Montgomery

I’ve read this book so many times that it’s become a part of me. Though not my favourite of Montgomery’s heroines, she’s definitly a very lovable character.

A story about "A Great and Terrible Beauty (Readers Circle)"

A Great and Terrible Beauty (Readers Circle)

by Libba Bray

Between when I started this book and the next night at 2 a.m., the only time I could put this book down was when I had to head to work. The rest of the time, I was so absorbed in this book that I had no idea how fast time was flying by. The characters and situations seemed to come alive to me the moment I picked up this book. There was real emotion in it all, and oh, how well I could empathize with what some of the characters were feeling at times. Very good book, definitly pick it up!

A story about "Lieutenant Hornblower"

Lieutenant Hornblower

by C.S. Forester

This was most certainly better than Forrester’s Mr. Midshipman Hornblower. The character development was more complete and the writing drew me further into the series.

I’m still somewhat disappointed that Styles hasn’t been in the series, as he was my favourite in the movies, but I’m not really surprised. Speaking of the movies, I usually find that once I’ve read the book that a movie has been based on, I don’t like the movies at all, but it’s completely different in this case. The book hasn’t changed my love for the movies at all, and I’m not disappointed in how the stories were changed for the movies. They can both survive completely seperately.

I enjoyed how the story was told from someone else’s point of view too. I had expected the story to be about Horatio Hornblower, and it is, but the main character is someone completely different. It was interesting to see the way another character views Hornblower.

While I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series, I think that I’m going to put them aside for the time being. From what I’ve seen so far, they’d be great for me to read during the school year, on the bus to and from school – so far each chapter could stand seperately as it’s own story. But yes, definitly coming back to this series and continuing with it later.
