A story about "End the Fed (Hardcover)" — 2 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A concise, readable and understandable to the layman sequel of sorts to The Revolution: A Manifesto. Whereas Ending the Fed had only a chapter or so on the subject, this book expands on Dr. Ron Paul’s opinion of central banking, with a factual, non partisan historical look at the emergence of the Fed, and how its total economic power has led us through all the destructive wars and boom bust cycles of business that have harmed our personal and economic freedoms in the last 96 years. Highly recommended!

A story about "The Road (Movie Tie-in Edition))" — 6 weeks ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Bleak, depressing and poorly written. Minimal character development gives me little reason to care about the characters.
It was highly irritating not to have proper paragraphs and quotation marks for the people when they spoke. For all the hype Cormac McCarthy is nothing like William Faulkner; whoever thinks so has never read Faulkner. I would recommend skipping this one.

A story about "Trees of North America : A Guide to Field Identification, Revised and Updated (Golden Field Guide from St. Martin's Press)" — 9 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Trees of North America is an identification book, and as such is not a late night page turner; but it is adequate for its purpose and I recommend it if you need to learn to identify trees or recall their latin names.

A story about "Bedford County (VA) (Images of America) (Images of America (Arcadia Publishing))" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s riveting! A page turner! The most engaging picture book of the year! Makes a great Christmas gift!

Of course I could be biased because I work with Ben Martin at WVTF, but I thought it was neat.

A story about "Only Yesterday: an Informal History of the Nineteen-Twenties" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought this book back in January, and put it on the to do list in June, so I didn’t intend to read it during an economic crisis which mirrors that which the book describes, but that’s the way it turned out.

Allen’s writing is comprehensively authoritative, and immediately accessible to the average person. Not dry at all.

I read the sequel to this book, Since Yesterday much earlier, in the summer of 2001.

A story about "The Jester" — 1 year ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Without a doubt, this is the worst book I have ever read in my entire life. I mean that, and I’ve read a lot of books. This is worse than The Da Vinci Code in part because it pretends to have done research, while Dan Brown at least admits he writes fluff intentionally.

I saw Morris Bishop’s great book on the Middle Ages in the “Sources”....too bad Mr. Patterson didn’t use it. It would have at least solved his problem with improper titles.

Just for starters here are a few things wrong with the novel:

Weak plot. Cardboard characters. Anachronistic language….and as noted above, Improper use of titles for royalty and clergy.

What is really hard to believe is that it took two people to actually write this schlock. If I were Andrew Cross, I wouldn’t admit responsibility.

Take my advice folks, don’t abuse your brain cells by wasting them on this.

A story about "A Foreign Policy of Freedom" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

An inspiring book which clearly explains what is wrong with our present foreign policy, and how following the foreign policy of our founders worked in the past, and can work today.

Since discovering Dr. Paul, I have felt less frustrated with politics, because I know he has read and applies all of his viewpoints according to what Our Constitution allows.

I know now that I am not alone in feeling that this is how things should be done.

A story about "The Revolution: A Manifesto" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

A concise and understandable treatise on economics and freedom from the 11 term texas congressman and recent presidential candidate. Highly recommended as an introduction to constitutional republican / libertarian thought.

A story about "Wickett's Remedy" — 1 year ago

This book was not great, but not bad either. The main plot of the story, which revolves around the 1918 flu epidemic was very well written. The subplot involving QD soda was somewhat less well developed, and even though it was all tied together in the end, it was hard to feel a connection to the characters in the subplot.

In fact, the subplot was disruptive to the flow of the main story. I think that one of the things that made this book tolerable for me is the vivid descriptions of the great city of Boston, MA.

A story about "Christ The Lord Out Of Egypt" — 1 year ago

This book is not bad, yet it isn’t as astounding as it wants to be either. It is all right but if I needed converting this wouldn’t do it. Let me say this at least, it is better than the Da Vinci Code.
