A review of "Through a Glass, Darkly" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The book goes like a conversation between an angel Ariel and a girl Cecilia. My second novel by Gaarder, the author of Sophie’s World. This one is an easy read. The importance of questions! The other perspective and the joy of imagination, optimism. Gaarder Rocks

A story about "The Sum of Our Discontent (Paperback): Why Numbers Make Us Irrational" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The book talks about the excessive rather obsessive use of numbers and measurement, in general. Apart from a historical ramp of statistics starting from Bentham, John Stuart Mill, Keynes and more recently Edgar Cahn of the Time Dollars fame, this book contains nothing of a story. Beating round the bush, if I say.

A story about "My Years with General Motors" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

An impersonal narration of how an organisation’s style was first built in the 1920s and in the 1930s by Sloan at General Motors – planning, the duPont analysis, the consumer financing model, hierarchy in a company, different functions, understanding the consumer, product innovation, project schedules and resources – all did for the first time.
