Pretty enjoyable. The characters were rather single-minded, though, which made them unrealistic and lacking in texture. However, I’m not sure if that was intentional (archetypes?) or just a representation of SF writing at that time. Still, worthwhile for its world-building, which was excellent.

Sweet and simple. Death talk was never so cute! Sometimes the translation was rough and offputting, though.

Reads fast and light. Really entertaining!

I was surprised by the range of emotion and experiences evoked by such simple illustrations. I think it’s as required to read as Maus.

I read it be properly briefed when I read Summer Queen, and it seems the only relevant bit of info is the revelation about Fire Lake. The rest was just Gundalinhu raving, and it doesn’t particularily build up his character for me. Snore.

I liked the noir feel a lot, but every other paragraph seemed to have the characters stepping through foecal water and entering a building covered with organic slime. Absolute overkill. Other than that, wonderfully different story.

A solid OK. Fun plot stuff that was like looking at an MC Escher picture. It didn’t tug on the heartstrings as much as White Apples, though. And the explanation for all the weirdness was rather cliche and unsatisfying.

You’d think, after all this time, I’d be over Gaiman’s signature schtick of relating mythic figures into a different idiom, but I’m so, so not. 1602 was awesome sauce.
