I found the beginning interesting, but was unexpectedly turned off as I continued… The code-breaking parts and the marketing parts seemed insufficiently connected, and both managed to come off as trite.
Not Lackey’s best, but enjoyable. Although it succombs to a number of fantasy cliches, many aspects of the novel are original.
An entertaining mystery with many plot twists.
Good, but not as good as The Left Hand of Darkness or The Dispossessed
In the Library of Congress information for the Viking edition of this book, the genre supplied is “Erotic fiction.” That’s just silly…
Interesting and entertaining… somewhere between Doctorow and Stephenson. Some gratuitous sex, though. (4/05/2004)
