This was a high point in the books I have read by this author (Bluebeard, Dead Eye Dick, Slaughterhouse V).
When I picked this up I struggled to remember anything memorable from his other books, excepting Dead Eye Dick (a fave of mine).
Vonnegut’s writing is succinctly eloquent, clever, and subtle. I did feel like the end got a little crazy and seemed mismatched with the rest of the book (if not in tone but tempo). Overall, an enjoyable fiction read, just the break I needed from my regular diet of non-fiction and philosophy.
I will probably pick a couple more of his books up from the library for my ‘fiction breaks’.
I was recommended this b/c of my love of the evil dead trilogy…but it was too corny for my taste. I’m not that into the zombie horror genre either. The thing about Evil Dead is that there are moments in it of actual ‘horror’ (decreasing gradually with each successive addition…that being why ‘Army of Darkness’ is my least favorite), this was just ridiculous from start to finish.
Nothing wrong with that, just wasn’t my cup of tea. The movie is what it is, which in that way I can respect what Jackson was doing.
I went to the theatre with high hopes having grown up watching the ‘Evil Dead’ trilogy, and was not dissappointed.
Ridiculous over-the-top gore, fun jumpy scares, and a lead actress whom I actually did not wish death upon by the end of the movie! There were moments that really reminded me of The Evil Dead that were great.
A real treat for a horror movie fan that has been unblemished by the recent genre developments characterized by the ‘Saw’, etc. (IMO)
Good way to spend a few bucks if you like horror, great if you’re a fan of Raimi’s previous works of horror (well, maybe except ‘The Grudge 2’).
i don’t think my husband enjoyed me telling him that he officially liked a ‘chick flick’ from another culture, since he redirected conversation to commentary about traditional chinese culture conflicting with modern chinese culture….lol
Barely finished this. I’ve seen the exact same storyline many times over with more intriguing characters than this. Plus, I felt the animation could have been far more impressive than what was shown. Animation lets you go wild, I felt like the live action puppets were more terrifying and creepy in ‘The Thing’ than this.
great popcorn movie. i only enjoy the original series and enjoyed this homage.
a little cheesier than the previous three movies, but still enjoyable. i was a little bummed about gambit’s portrayal…did anyone else notice how sometimes his accent was there and sometimes not? i just always thought he was kind of cool in the cartoon.
good review of psych physio and sensation/perception courses
