NOT WORTH CONSUMING

i liked the second movie less than the first, and i liked this third installment least of all. it was boring, slow, and so full of cheesy lines it was terrible. the action sequences were disjointed and there for show. they never lasted long and were not particularly impressive. sad that these last two movies had to ruin what started so nicely.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I completely agree with the previous review/story. The movie is nothing like the book. It contains the basic characters and plots, but that’s about it. It completely changes key sequences and in some cases, changing or eliminating minor but key characters. I thought the movie lacked reasons to care. Characters are suddenly sentimental about each other with not buildup or prompting. The movie would have been passable, although not really good, except that the book was so much better. I can’t really recommend the movie.

Oh, and there’s way too much sentimental, overly-dramatic music. Only truly epic movies can carry a soundtrack like that, and this is not one.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoyed this. It’s inventive and silly. But I sadly read Fforde’s The Fourth Bear first (and out of order in that series, but that’s another story) and thought that this Thursday Next story didn’t quite compare in the laugh-out-loud-wacky category.

Still good, though. Plus, this had the added benefit of being about literature, and I do love books.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Well, I expected this movie to be more. After the first few minutes I realized I had better just take it as it is. It’s a silly movie, with silly characters. And it should make you laugh, but beyond that, there’s not much there.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I’d have to say the book is a million times better. The movie was not as suspenseful and made the clues seem much too easy to figure out. Robert and Sophie were never stymied for longer than 3 seconds. I realize that cramming books into movies requires some shortening, but really. Additionally, I did not like Tom Hanks as Langdon. Or the changed ending.

It wasn’t horrid, but it wasn’t all that great either.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really liked this movie when I saw it in the theater. At that time, I’d barely heard of Firefly and I was just interested in the movie because it sounded like sometime I would like. Therefore, I think you can understand and appreciate the movie without the series.

Last fall, a long time after having seen Serenity, I started watching Firefly on a whim. I fell in love with Firefly, the western music, the characters, Serenity, and everything else that is wonderful about the series. When we reached the end, the next step was to watch the movie again. I really liked the movie again, although I think I like the series more. Nevertheless, the movie maintains most of the elements I loved about the series, minus the western music. If you are interested at all in eventually watching the series, start with the series and watch the movie last. If you are worried you won’t have time or you won’t finish, just start with the movie. You’ll want to watch the series when you’re finished. :)

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I actually didn’t ever finish this movie. I started watching it twice, got bored twice, and stopped watching… twice. It just wasn’t entertaining me. Perhaps I kept starting it on bad days or something, but I thought it was at least supposed to be a decent movie.

Not my favorite Miyazaki film — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I hesitated to mark this “worth consuming” because I think that other Miyazaki films are much better. I would highly recommend Howl’s Moving Castle and Naussica of the Valley of the Wind over Spirited Away. This film felt slower and I was less interested. However, it is still better than many other films out there.
