A story about "The Courtship of Princess Leia (Star Wars)" — 4 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This is yet another frustrating entry to the Star Wars expanded universe, where an acceptable story is marred by the fact that most of the characters do not seem to ring true to themselves. It is mainly Leia who is the culprit, her actions just seem out of whack. Although i couldn’t say it’s not worth consuming, i cannot wholeheartedly recommend it either. I wish there was a median option.

A story about "The Simpsons - The Complete Fifth Season" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

There is not much you can really say that hasn’t been said before, but this is one of the best seasons of The Simpsons and well worth your money. The picture is so clean and bright you would swear that they are brand new episodes. Can’t wait for season six, and the Homer-styled packaging!

WORTH CONSUMING!

A book worthy of it’s hype. Beautiful, raging, compassionate, passionate and truthful. A worthy companion to “Mrs Dalloway”, and i usually dislike the ‘revision of literature’ genre.

A story about "Farscape - The Complete Third Season" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

There were so many things that could have been done so badly this season – the death of a major character, the duplication of another so that there were two of them on board Moya… but this could be the best season of Farscape. The ludicrous even-for-scifi duplication plots ended up being one of the most satisfying and poignant story arcs ever in the entire series. The introduction of Jool also adds to the rambunctious crew.

A story about "The Truce at Bakura (Star Wars (Random House Paperback))" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

“TAB” is one of the better-written Star Wars novels in the fact that the characters are pretty much like their counterparts in the movies. Some later books in the series take liberties with the characters we know and love so that they don’t seem like the same people. So, with all that going for it, unfortunately “TAB” isn’t that great a story. Set a couple of days after the celebration of Endor, and outlining the first treaty between the Alliance the remnants of the Imperial forces you feel that this should be more momentous – rather than just another crazy adventure. Still, it has a lot more going for it than some of the other Expanded Universe books.

A story about "One Hundred Years of Solitude" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I am not sure if i was in the right mood for reading this, but it was a bit of a slog. The story started beautifully and was certainly compelling, and although i understood Marquez’ use of the names being repeated through the family’s history it only served to add confusion and much flipping back to the family tree at the start of the book. The final 70 or so pages once again picked up the pace and led to a satisfying and beautiful ending – but it is hardgoing in the middle.

A story about "Arrested Development - Season One" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Truly the funniest sitcom ever – it’s a shame people would rather watch “Friends” or “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Arrested is clever, wry and hilarious – and succeeds in making you love a group of people you really shouldn’t.

A story about "Farscape - The Complete Second Season" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

In what is possibly the best season of Farscape, Zhaan is still around, Chianna becomes a full member of the team, D’Argo finds his son, and Crichton and Aeryn finally admit their love for one another. By the end of the season all our hearts will be broken, but the third season will mend it. Slightly, for there is more heartache ahead.

A story about "FRENCHMAN'S CREEK" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Perhaps my favourite DuMaurier novel, despite its audacity in its OverTheTop nature – perhaps that is what endears itself to me. The heroine and hero of the story are much more likable than those of her other novels – perhaps because they represent the rogue hiding within ourselves. The ending, although slightly disappointing to the romantics, is really the only way it could have been.

A story about "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (Star Wars)" — 4 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Episode 5.5 (set between Empire and Jedi) is a mixed bag. Although it is nice to see a new adventure set during the film’s storyline, it really misses the presence of Han as he is hanging on the wall of Jabba’s palace. To this end, Perry brings in a Han-wannabe but the character of Dash Rendar is an unnecessary pale imitation. Likewise, some liberties are taken with the characters we know and love – but there are far worse (and far better) Star Wars novels out there.
