A story about "For Us, The Living: A Comedy of Customs" — 5 years ago

So many posthumously-published books by great authors turn out to be real crap. This wasn’t quite crap, but it wasn’t very good. The book seems more like a lecture from Heinlein about his version of utopia and how mankind can get there from here. If that’s what you want out of a science fiction book, great. If you’re looking for plot, pick up something else.

A story about "The King of Torts" — 5 years ago

As a rule, I really don’t like Grisham’s books. This one isn’t much better, but I got halfway through it one day and decided I’d better just go ahead and finish it. I regret the time I wasted on it now.

A story about "The Kitchen Boy: A Novel of the Last Tsar" — 5 years ago

What a wonderful book! It gives a very touching portrayl of the last days of Czar Nicholas II and his family. I highly recommend this one.

A story about "A Cook's Tour: Global Adventures in Extreme Cuisines" — 4 years ago

I love books about food, though they do tend to make me hungry. I thought this was a great book. Bourdain shows loving attention to his descriptions of meals, but gives a very sensitive and eyes-open look at the locales and cultures he visits. Highly recommend!

A story about "The Elegant Gathering of White Snows" — 4 years ago

Written by a woman who went to school with several of my husband’s siblings in Wisconsin. Those siblings who have read the book didn’t really enjoy it, but I kind of liked it. There were a few “clunky” places where the writing style was a little juvenile, but on the whole, I enjoyed the read.

A story about "The Last Girls (Ballantine Reader's Circle)" — 4 years ago

I hope this gets a whole heck of a lot better soon. (It didn’t. It wasn’t sure if it wanted to be “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood,” or “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.” The two styles didn’t combine well at all.

A story about "The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror" — 4 years ago

Very enjoyable and one of his better books. Not as good as Lamb, but what could be?

A story about "The Little Friend" — 4 years ago

Pretty disappointed with this one—the plot is interesting, the characters are interesting, but reading the book felt like trying to run in deep mud.
