A story about "A Friend of the Earth" — 5 years ago

A scary, though tongue-in-cheek look at the future (2025) after the “collapse of the biosphere.” A good read.

It wasn’t a very cheery book, and maybe that’s why it didn’t really succeed commercially, but it made me think and I’m glad I read it.

A story about "Sufferings in Africa: The Astonishing Account of a New England Sea Captain Enslaved by North African Arabs" — 5 years ago

I love survival non-fiction. The story of Captain Riley has all the great elements—extreme hardship, a never say die attitude, the help of friends along the way. Highly recommend!

A story about "Skinny Dip" — 5 years ago

Carl Hiaasen always makes me giggle—I can say that about a number of authors, but not many more really get me thinking about the state of the environment in such a clever way. This book is no exception!

A story about "Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1)" — 5 years ago

Clearly written by a very talented young author. Too bad he robs from many classic fantasy series: Anne McCaffrey’s “Dragonriders of Pern,” David & Leigh Eddings Belgariad and Mallorean sagas, and most obvious, JRR Tolkein’s “Lord of the Rings.”

A story about "Morality for Beautiful Girls (No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency (Paperback))" — 5 years ago

Classic Mma Ramotswe—laid back, smooth reading.

A story about "Keeping Faith: A Novel" — 5 years ago

I appreciated how this book was very non-invasive and didn’t endorse a particular belief. It just told a story and told it well.

A story about "Tommyknockers" — 5 years ago

I’m a pretty big Stephen King fan, but I have to say this is the worst book I’ve ever read by him.

A story about "Dude, Where's My Country?" — 5 years ago

I want to love it, but it’s best taken in small doses.

A story about "Fluke: Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings (Today Show Book Club #25)" — 5 years ago

I’ve read two of Moore’s books prior to this: Lamb, and Bloodsucking Fiends. Loved the first, really didn’t like the last.

This one is falling somewhere in the middle so far.

Finished: Not bad. I laughed out loud several times. Still doesn’t measure up to Lamb.

A story about "Ghosts of Tsavo: Tracking the Mythic Lions of East Africa" — 5 years ago

Sending shivers up my spine!

Got a little pedantic toward the end. Didn’t need the author’s political and moral opinions on issues like human cloning.
