Thank God that’s over. It was good, but it took me forever to finish. It just didn’t capture my attention that well, at least, not until the very end when we find out that Captain Cook was having a serious crack-up at the time of his death.

My husband loved this book.

This is actually the second time I’ve read this book. Its a very nice, family story that takes place during WWII. A young boy is sent to live with his grandparents after his mother dies and his father goes off to war. This is where he learns what it is like to really be a part of a family.

Divorce, Le (William Abrahams Book)

I’m enjoying this. It’s more serious/heavier than fluff like “Bridget Jones Diary” or the Shopaholic series, so that’s a plus, but is not so heavy that it doesn’t keep you entertained. I recommend it.

Finished it—there were a few loose ends, but still a good read.

Song of Susannah (The Dark Tower, Book 6)

It was wonderful. I was so worried when I read that King had written himself into this book. The few authors that do that come across as pompous and in love with themselves. That didn’t fit my image of Stephen King, and I was very happy to find that he wrote that particular section with an infinite amount of humility and skill. Wonderful book.

Not very good, actually. Brown must have written this before he really hit his stride, because it’s a very bland action book that could have been written by any number of other authors (Clive Cussler, bleah, comes to mind). I wish I had the hours of my life back that I spent reading this dreck.

A Friend of the Earth

A scary, though tongue-in-cheek look at the future (2025) after the “collapse of the biosphere.” A good read.

It wasn’t a very cheery book, and maybe that’s why it didn’t really succeed commercially, but it made me think and I’m glad I read it.
