During my initial wildland fire training, S130-190, one of our instructors (a huge man the size of a wall) begins his portion of the instructing booming “Who has read Young men and fire?” “A MUST READ IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE DOING THIS!”
Yes sir! I thought to myself and wrote down the name of this book and a few other “BETTER READ DAMN IT” books.
I read: Young men and fire, Fire on the Mountain: The True Story of the South Canyon Fire, on storm king Mtn by Pascucci (terrible book!), and Jumping Fire (best book ever in this girl’s opinion!).

I LOVED this testosterone dripping story about the adventures of an Alaskan smoke jumper. For the first chapter I wanted to be a smoke jumper too but after the second chapter, I quickly changed my mind!

This movie has some funny quotes (almost as good as the old Monty Python movies). Finally an non animated movie you can watch with your kids.

The Irish often use the word “brilliant” as oppose to the American “wow”. Good beer never seemed so fun. I have looked in Mexico…
As with Angela’s Ashes, I end up picking up an Irish accent just from reading the book.

bizarre dark humor or Kurt Vonnegut was a nice change from what I had been reading. A friend gave me this book, otherwise not a book I would have bought.
An easy read.

Don’t always believe what you read when it comes to history. The case for the U-boat showed had been sunk off Gibraltar.
