A story about "MaryJane's Ideabook, Cookbook, Lifebook: For the Farmgirl in All of Us" — 4 years ago

I want to keep this book forever (but $35 is a little steep for me) but some other person has put the book on hold at the library, so I must bring it back. As a note to myself, these are the pages I’ve bookmarked:
123, 135, 220, 254, 282, 342, 357, 361, and of course 287-309 (the wall-tent)

WORTH CONSUMING!

...because I haven’t tried the recipes yet. But there were lots that looked good, and I’ll be trying three of them this week.

WORTH CONSUMING!

After mocking this cover mercilessly for months, I was mocking it in front of a friend of mine. Bad move! Turns out she was the model for the cover! I knew she was a fashion model, but I didn’t know she’d done book covers. That’s why the cover character looked so familiar! I’ll be much more concientious in my future mocking.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve had this book sitting on my shelf for about a year and a half. I’ve sort of meant to read it but never actually picked it up and read a page. When I was browsing Amazon the other day, though, I kept coming across it, and it sounded GOOD. So finally I picked it up, and now I really don’t want to put it down. Unfortunately, it’s not really an option because of the need for income, but every spare minute, you’ll find me in this book.

I got this book from the library and have been completely captivated by it. I spent most of yesterday reading it instead of working (oops) and now I want to build and live in a wall-tent. Go figure.

A story about "The Little Guide to Your Well-Read Life" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a good overview of reading, successful reading techniques, and types of reading. My only gripe is that the author suggests that he’ll tell me how to get more reading time, and in the end, basically says, “You’ll find the time.” Well, thanks for that insight. Other than this one minor annoyance, I enjoyed the book.

A story about "Only You, Sierra (Sierra Jensen Series)" — 6 years ago

“Only You, Sierra” picks up where “A Promise is Forever,” the last book in the Christy Miller series, left off. Readers of that series will enjoy finding out more about the characters they know and love, but the Christy Miller books are not a prerequisite for this book. Sierra is a compelling character and this book can certainly stand on its own.
When Sierra returns from a life-changing missions trip in Europe, she feels mature, godly, and confident. In the airport in London, and later on her flight back to Portland, Sierra encounters Paul, a young man who she feels a strong connection to. Her direct manner fascinates him; at the same time, she pricks his conscience. They both will remember this meeting for a long time.

When Sierra arrives “home,” it’s not to the home she left, as her family moved in with her beloved grandmother while she was in Europe. Suddenly, Sierra has to deal with a new city, new school, and her Granna Mae’s failing mind. For the first time in her life, she is the outsider, and she retreats into herself while she tries to figure out how to deal with it.

Fortunately, God has not left Sierra alone, and she learns to lean more on Him in times of uncertainty.

This book is the first in a series of twelve, which will appeal most to teen- and pre-teen-aged girls. If you don’t fall into that category, though, don’t let that stop you. We can all benefit from Robin Jones Gunn’s gentle way of revealing God’s love.

A story about "Bringing Down the House : The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions" — 6 years ago

This is a very interesting, very quick read (because of the topic and writing, not the number of pages).

Some of the ideas are already being implemented on my website.
