A story about "black olives" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I hate olives. Really, really, really, really hate them. I used to choose the longer, regular lines over the express lane at my old grocery store, because the latter was next to the olive bar and the smell, which I could smell up to about 7 feet away, makes me want to hurl. And I like olive oil – go figure!

A story about "seitan (wheat meat)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Seitan in spicy sesame sauce, over brown rice with kale on the side.

A story about "Tempeh" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love tempeh just about any old way, but tempeh reubens, with smoky tempeh, real (cow) cheese and sauerkraut, on rye, are the bomb!

A story about "hummus" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I can only eat sprouted hummus, which I’ve never seen in Boulder (there’s a dreadie couple in Portland who make and sell it at New Seasons and such), and I don’t have the dedication to sprout the beans myself.
:(

But, it is good for you, most people like it, and it’s fairly versatile, so it’s a safe potluck option.

Thankfully, I prefer Baba Ghanouj.

A story about "avocado shake" — 3 years ago

You might find these at a good Pho shop. Made with condensed milk. Incredible.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Really, I thought this was awful.

Now, it wasn’t my pick exactly – my roomie left a couple of DVDs outside my door and I noticed Jeremy Irons was in it, so I thought I’d give it a try. I almost gave up, but I had this sick fascination with it – could it really get any worse? And imagine, my first exposure to Heath Ledger was Brokeback Mountain, such a great performance (where his monotome muttering actually works). This was embarassing, but ya gotta start somewhere, right?

Anyway, if the idea of this film appeals to you, I recommend “Dangerous Beauty” (a little more serious) or “The Three Musketeers” (the 70s version, with Raquel Welch, Faye Dunaway, Richard Chamberlain, Charleton Heston and Michael York – truly a delightful romp).

but surprisingly engaging as a love story.

What can I say? — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I just don’t like ‘em. Give me cold pizza, herring or kippers for breakfast any day.

A review of "Bubble Tea" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Like drinking boogers.

Ick. Blech. Bluugghhh.

That it’s like boogers in condensed milk doesn’t help.

Now I’ll admit, I’m a little sensitive to – or weird about – food textures, but Boba tea is just too too.

Blaahhhhh!

A story about "Dolmas" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

My recipe for grape leaves dolams is from Turkey, and uses rice, onion, pine nuts, currants, mint, dill, sugar, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and lemon juice.

They rock.
