WORTH CONSUMING!
Although I wasn’t born during the eras of the first three doctors, it’s actually this Doctor- Slyvester McCoy whom I am the least familiar with. Other than his brief appearance in the 1996 Doctor Who TV-film, I know very little about him and his personality.
So, being a Whovian super-fan, when I found the complete series of IDW reprints of 7th Doctor tales (for only a buck apiece, I might add) I jumped at the chance to snatch them up.
This first issue pits the Doctor with an old foe whom I am also very much unfamiliar with, the Martian Ice Warriors. In this tale, the Warriors appear to have turned a summer resort in which it’s 89 and sunny year round into their very own ice palace.
This story involves a companion named Forbusher, yet another character that I knew nothing about. He’s a space penguin (hand to heart, not making this up) who appearently knows both the sixth Doctor and his former companion Peri- which is odd, because I’ve seen the episode in which Peri and the Doctor part ways and their never was a space penguin in that episode.
A great start to this series. I’m really looking forward to more. Worth Consuming.
(NOTE: Forbisher is a shape-changing alien who appears only in Doctor Who Magazine UK. Also, Peri’s departure from the Doctor in the British comic differs significantly from the TV show, which IS canon as opposed to new adventure Who novels and comics.)
