A review of "Russ Meyer's Faster Pussycat Kill!..kill!" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

In one of Meyer’s more “modest” films (modest meaning no blatant, unnecessary nudity…although one could argue all nudity is necessary) this is complete camp and gratuitous violence at it’s best. Or should that be worst? Well, it’s bad in a good way. It’s what the Grindhouse movies strive to be.

Why I like people who have consumed "The Monster Squad (Two-Disc 20th Anniversary Edition)" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

When someone can pick-up and back-and-forth this quote with me, is invariably someone I like hanging out with.

“Kick him in the nards!”
“Wolfman doesn’t have nards!”
“Kick him anyway!”
::kick::
“Whoa. Wolfman has nards.”

A story about "Infinite Jest" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I have finally finished. I started in on this book a few years ago – that’s right years – and have only now just reached the end. And I wouldn’t so much call it “reading” as a test in persistence and determination. Thankfully, Wallace’s style of writing appeals to me, so it wasn’t as painful as Ulysses (which I still have yet to finish.) Other than the extended breaks I took, it was actually a casual read.

Disturbed this morning — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Ah. That.
That’s what I was so disturbed
about this morning:
my desire has come back,
and I want you again.
I was doing so fine,
I was above it all.
The boys and girls were beautiful
and I was an old man, loving everyone.
And now I want you again,
I want your absolute attention,
your underwear rolled down in a hurry
still hanging on one foot,
and nothing on my mind
but to be inside
the only place
that has
no inside,
and no outside.

One of my favorites from this book.

A review of "Daily Negations" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Just awesome. These Daily Negations have more affirming power for me than that other crap.

“When I spend time with young children, I can sometimes see innocence and joy on their faces, and it makes me think about how disappointed I was when I got older and learned the truth about how mediocre life is: how everybody is greedy and small and a liar, how everybody let me down. Perhaps one day, I will disappoint a child, who will then learn a painful lesson about life. We are all potential teachers.”

Preach it.

Why I want to consume "Tear Down the Mountain: An Appalachian Love Story" — 2 years ago

I don’t usually go in for book reviews – considering I’m up to my elbows in them daily and most reviewers are full of shite – but I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book. And I read 20 pages while still in the bookstore, so it captured my interest.

Let ya know how it goes.

A story about "Teachings on Love" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Excerpt:

“Mindfulness illuminates what we are doing – how we stand and sit, how we look at others, how we smile, and how we frown. With the light of mindfulness present, we recognize which actions are beneficial and which are harmful. Actions that benefit us benefit others. Actions that harm us also harm others. That is why we begin this exercise by saying ‘May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and compassion.’ Once you have used the key of understanding to open the door of love, you will experience acceptance for yourself and others. If you cannot accept others, it is because you do not yet accept yourself. If you are struggling with those around you, it is because there is a struggle inside of you.”

Cool images, no text. — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Pretty cool – a catalog of most of the underground and alternative press that reigned for a few years, displaying page images from various papers. I wish there was more text, or any for that matter, about the history. Guess I’ll need a separate book for that.

A story about "A Million Little Pieces" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

What a complete ass! It’s one thing to lie about your life but something totally different to lie about the life of someone else. Well, regardless, it’s still a good book – and even if it was promoted as fiction from the beginning it probably would have done just as well. He’s still an ass though.

Why I want to consume "A Christmas Story: The Book That Inspired the Hilarious Classic Film" — 4 years ago

There was a book? Oh that’s just awesome. I am so going to read this. Happy.
