Why I want to consume "Jane Eyre (Norton Critical Editions)" — 2 years ago
Our creative writing instructor is currently re-reading it and mentioned that it’s a good study in narrative structure/story arc.

Thanks to wonderful ECT, I barely remember what this book is about, so I’ve decided to re-read it.
I’m not going to review every single Jedi Apprentice book, but I do recommend this series to anyone who’s a fan of the Obi-Wan Kenobi’s. I’m a sucker for backstories, so of course I was sucked in.
The series begins when Obi-Wan’s 13, the age at which most young Jedi have already been chosen to be a Padawan. Although the Jedi Apprentice series is for young readers (ages 9 – 12), Jude Watson well conveys young Obi-Wan’s insecurities about whether or not he’ll become an apprentice; if Qui-Gon Jinn, who we all know chooses him, approves of him; if he’s doing well enough—emotions most teenagers feel, including teenage crushes(!), which is something all adults can relate to and makes this series worth reading.
This last volume ends with a 17-year-old Obi-Wan about to graduate from “Jedi high school” and to embark on his journey, still with Qui-Gon, to “Jedi college,” where he’ll go through his trials and if successful, become a Jedi Knight.
Yeah, yeah - I’m reading “fluff” books because number one, I’m a sucker for books that have cats in them and two, that’s what ECT does to your brain - makes it hard to read literary fiction.
Actually, I’ve been re-reading The Cat Who… series because I have a bunch that I haven’t read yet and because of the ECT, couldn’t remember exactly how Qwill got Koko, etc.
If you aren’t familiar with this series, the first three volumes were written in the 60’s, and let me tell you—they were pretty risqué for their time. For example, a husky female sculptor of metal named Butchy Bolton? Braun didn’t publish her fourth volume until the ‘80s because: “The rising mystery author disappeared from the publishing scene for 18 years. The blame came from the fact that mystery novels were starting to focus on sex, violence, and foul language, and Braun’s light-hearted books were not welcome in this new territory.” (Wikipedia, Lillian Jackson Braun) Personally, I think this series is now written by ghost writers. I mean, the woman was born in 1913, which would make her like, 93 or 94 now and she’s still publishing! More power to her, I guess.
OK, on to this particular book, but I’m not going to include spoilers. Qwilleran and his cats leave their country home “400 miles north of everywhere” to sublet an apartment “Down Below” (the city) in order to save the historic building from being torn down by developers. A preservation committee, on which some old friends of his are members, are the ones who asked him to make the trip. Not only did the plot plod along, we never find out what actually happens to the building at the end of the story! Will it be restored? Will it be torn down and gentrified? WTF?
I need a break from playing KotOR. Besides, I think I’ve only played this version once, and of course I was LS. This time I’m totally DS and even named my character Goalie! Mwahahahaha!!!!
Because it goes sssssoooooo sssssslllllloooooowwwwwwwllllllyyyy. I also cannot fucking stand Bastila. I’ll go back to it, I’m sure, but right now I’ve decided to play KotOR II and go DS all the way.
Well, uh, I started playing, or rather, replaying Morrowind, but obviously didn’t put it on here. I got a lot farther this time, but then I had to have ECT again, so that was that. I don’t think I’ve completely forgotten where I am or what I’m doing, but lately I’ve been itching to play KotOR.
Since all the previous times I’ve played I was always the same class character, and since I wasn’t very far into the game yet anyway, I decided to start over again as a Scout instead of a Scoundrel. Not too charming, but way better in a fight. ;)
Haven’t seen this in what seems like a million years. There was a lot in the movie I couldn’t remember, but I don’t think it was just because of the ECT. It’s one of my favorite movies, so I’m not even going to review it.
The important thing is that I believe tonight (Saturday night) was the first time we’ve had guests at this apartment. My teammate Kristina, who Brian and I have now nicknamed “Hermione,” came over and we ordered in and watched HP. She drove in from the suburbs in snowy weather, which was really cool. Luckily, it stopped by the time she left, but if it hadn’t, of course she was welcome to spend the night.
We all realized - or rather, remembered - how Quidditch is similar to hockey, with the exception of the Seeker position. Kristina’s a Chaser and I, of course, am the Keeper. ;)
Brian and I do need to socialize more, and it was nice to have someone over instead of always going to other people’s houses. The three of us agreed to watch the rest of the HP DVDs in the future, and maybe we ought to invite the Beaters and other Chasers on our team, too. LOL!
I actually started playing this last spring, but then I had the ECT and completely forgot where I was in the game, other than the fact that my character was Nairb the Elf Assassin and that I was a Dark Elf. I really wanted to finish it before starting Oblivion, but I started anyway, was scared out of my wits by one of the monsters (I was alone in the apartment at the time), and resolved to finish Morrowind before playing Oblivion.
Unfortunately, I’ve barely touched the Xbox all summer, mainly because I’ve been frustrated by my memory loss and cognitive difficulties in relearning what all the buttons and stuff on the controls are for. That part seems to have improved, as I started a new game yesterday afternoon and played until 6:00 a.m. But I have insomnia, remember.
Obviously, KotOR has been put on hold, mainly because I’ve played it so many times, at least with a female character, that it’s just kind of borrrrrrrring. I’m sure I’ll go back to it, but probably not for a long time.
FBI profiler Illeana Scott (Angelina Jolie) asked by longtime French-Canadian police friend to aid in search for serial killer, male, 30s, who stalks, kills men approximately his age and size, usually loners so disappearance not immediately noticed. Killer assumes last victim’s identity, leads his life-even pays taxes (?!)-while seeking out next victim.
James Costa (Ethan Hawke), high-strung gallery owner, witnesses latest murder. Brought in for questioning, released, then stalked by killer. Hunt continues. Socially awkward Costa under protective surveillance, develops friendship with Scott.
Hawke’s first role where he doesn’t look like he smells bad. Jolie’s boob shots—gratuitous. Somewhat satisfying ending.
