WORTH CONSUMING!

Just spectacular. I have this album on vinyl, and it’s just amazing to spin the record, sit down on the couch & be blown away by Roy Haynes, Rahsaan Roland Kirk on saxes, manzello, stritch, and flute, Tommy Flanagan on piano, and Henry Grimes on bass. Haynes is at the pinnacle of his abilities on this album, taking almost melodic solos on the drums. Kirk uses his multiple saxophone technique, but in very tasteful ways, to make it seem almost as if there are two saxophonists, rather than one player who’s blowing on two horns. Really fattens up the sound of the tunes. Really highly recommendded.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Just so everyone knows, this is a Kenny Dorham album. It seems the artist name is missing from this entry for one reason or another :-) That aside, it’s a fantastic album, with Dorham on trumpter, Joe Henderson on tenor sax, Herbie Hancock on piano, Butch Warren on bass and Tony Williams on drums. Cut in 1963, before either Herbie or Tony Williams joined Miles Davis’ band, this is some swingin’ hard bop.
