This book is an essay in what we shall call cosmology in the broad sense, or Cosmology, to distinguish it from the narrower field of scientific cosmology. For a variety of reasons, the time has come to attempt to the reconstruction of a unified worldview – one that relates human life to both the natural world and to nature’s transcendent ground.

I find a book about someone coming of age in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s, as I did, I gravitate toward it. This is particularly true if the main protagonist is a young gay man. During the 1980’s the bulk of “gay” fiction typically centered on a young man coming of age in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. Presently, fiction with a gay male character is always about a young man (handsome and desirable) who is either: 1) drawn to an unavailable lover, 2) has one sexual exploit after another, 3) is a vampire (or lives in a sexually charged future or fantasy socialscape).
