A story about "Under Milk Wood: A Play for Voices" — 3 years ago
I first read this when I was 11. It has everything. It’s wonderful.

I first read this when I was 11. It has everything. It’s wonderful.
I read this book having no knowledge of the author or really about creative writing.
So lets get one thing straight, I am no creative writer, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to be, I am in truth though, resigned to the fact that I write academically very well. So i suppose we all should be happy with what we’ve got.
So why did I read this? It was a gift, it was highly recommended and I love to read.
Although I finished it a week ago, I keep picking it back up, it’s fascinating, I’m not American and what got me about Bird by Bird was the glimpses into the way of life. Things that are alien to me, simple things, the way that there are rules about what a kid can have in their sandwiches at lunch, how they should be packed even, the descriptions of making lemonade, just things like that.
I really loved this aspect of it, although that was probably not the intention of the person who sent it, but sometimes it goes like that. And I suppose thats part of the joy of sharing good books, everyone sees things differently. I really loved it. Made me smile and made me sad.
It’ going to be one of my ‘bedside books’ the kind of book you go back to when all else fails.
Thank you. x
This book is like nothing else I have ever read. It is amazing. It is written from POV of a boy with Aspergers, even in so much as the chapters are not running 1,2,3 etc but are labelled with prime numbers, as he (the narrator) likes prime numbers, they follow a sequence and it is this that he finds solace in, routine, sequence, order.
I read this book in my first year in Uni, as I am studying nursing (LD or ID if you prefer), it was recommended by a lecturer, who I am pleased to also class as a friend. I read it in one sitting, cover to cover. That night I picked it back up and started again.
Although I work with people with aspergers and ASD there was so much contained in this book that stopped me dead.
I don’t mean to say that The curious incident will appeal to only those studying to care for people with ASD, far from it, it is an amazingly well written book, a fantastically touching story about how it is too see the world differently. Maybe we all need to appreciate that sometimes.
Sorry folks. I thought this sucked. unoriginal, boring and a bit crap. I normally like most music but this? Over hyped bollocks.
This book horrified me and fascinated me all at once. I have re-read it more times than I care to remember. It is a wonderfully written piece. It is a love story filled with frustration and a also a cool detatchment. Fusang reaches out silently, and you know there will be no real happy ending for her.
Because it puts me in mind of the old 1950’s films, but without being stale. The Humour is amazing, clever, witty, sharp, edgy, surprising.
If you enjoyed Very Bad Things you will love this. And if you didn’t shame on you!
I loved this. I loved that they kept it in London, where it was originally set and ddin’t try and ‘export’ it. I loved that it was about a subject which people hide from at the moment. For those reasons alone, I think it was a brave film to make.
It was choreographed beautifully, at times it was like watching an incredible dance. But The Wachowski bros.. Need I say more?
The lighting was beautiful. Hugo Weaving, no one else could have played V. Natalie Portman- she was good, the accent maybe a bit forced, if I had to be picky about it I would say that they could have picked an actual British acctress, who could have played the part equally as well.
Just wanted to say it wasn’t actually the large print version but I can’t be arsed to change it!
OK, book, not the best ever written, easy to put down, but an entertaining little tale all the same.
