mostly because my husband is one of the people who have consumed this, even if he has forgotten to put it on his list…

Seriously though, it was him who nagged me into reading it, he then changed tack and told me if I didn’t read it he would lend it to our friend Bron and I would be upset for missing out.

Well, that did it, and I just finished it. He thought that it was takig me a log time to read (a couple of weeks) but that was only due to the fact that I have been in work more than I have been at home… So last week in my annual leave I finished the last half in a morning.

So yes, it is a bit creepy, it makes you feel a bit sick at times, and it doesn’t answer all the questions it raises. That I think is a good thing, it leaves you a bit annoyed, but it sort of stays with you too.

So thank you babe, it was worth the nagging, BTW I pinched the other one off the bedside table, I’ll be done with it by wednesday!

The Book of Illusions: A Novel

My husband gave me this for our first wedding anniversary (paper, get it?) and to be honest I am of the opinion that it is very difficult to give a book as a gift, unless you absolutely know what the person likes to read, or you know them very well, even if it’s a boook you enjoyed yourself.

But I love to read, and I really did enjoy this, so much so that I tried to not read it too quickly, it was well written, a good few twists and turns and it really did keep you with the main character till the end.

Definately, I am a Paul Auster convert.

Lessons to be learned.

that the present is the past you are building for yourself. Brick by brick. Your actions, words, reactions they all add up, what you say and how you treat those in the here and now. Will you look back on the way you are now, how you are behaving to those around you now here in the present and regret it? It’s not comfortable, maybe I can ask that because I know how it feels to think I wish (in the definitive sense the person is now gone)...

The gone in the permanent sense, sorry for being harsh about it but there is no other loss that comes close. none. Reality is harsh. And it doesn’t do to spend it in the past, past is past. It’s Neitzche’s abyss isn’t it?

Anyhow, I digress, I don’t know if that is what everyone gets from this film, Adam Sandler was excellent, as was Don C. The realisation that his wife who he felt so much resentment for was actually the woman he fell in love with, that she was just trying her best, just like him.

Adam Sandler’s character was well executed, it makes it easy to see how people fall into situations that can destroy them, that events can create a false reality, infact cause a complete disentaglement with reality, disengagement and lack of communication, seeing those who truly love you as the enemy.

I could be confusing this with that other shit film she did about vampires. But I couldn’t really tell if they were her own teeth in that or not either. God Almighty, will someone please, for the sake of all that is still right in the world, stop casting talentless aneorexics in films? They yak on about bad impressions to teenage girls and then do something like this, she’ll be advertising Slimfast next. Oh the irony.

Gah! I am boring myself now, I don’t want to talk about this anymore, it makes me want to punch someone.

It was highly amusing, if you’re 5 that is, and not tired, one of our Party slept through it…And no it wasn’t Speedy.

Lots of jokes around bodily functions, just what you would expect from Mike Myers though. And his accent sucked, it didn’t even sound Scottish anymore, like he couldn’t be bothered.

Take the kids, we did, in fact we took the neighbours kids too, it was like the Waltons visit the cinema. A word of advice, if you go see this in Nantgarw don’t go to McDonalds before hand, it’s full of Emo kids.

For anyone who can take a liberal dose of bad taste, p**s taking and watching 3rd rate celebrities reading badly written scripts about made up drugs and bad science, really run out and buy this.

Christopher Morris is about as ridiculously funny as is possible, if you liked the day today then you will love Brasseye, it generated so many complaints for Channel 4 about the paedophile episode, people actually believed it! (God only knows how, you would have to be barking mad).

Anyhow, I wish he was still on TV but I reckon he is blacklisted…

I love Terry Pratchett.

he keeps me sane, he gives me somewhere to escape too when my world sucks. My world sucks quite profusely and Mr. Pratchett has helped me no end.

The Fifth Elephant is one of my extensive collection, and one I have read probably 5 or 6 times. I have read most of them at least twice and it is testament to the man that I can do that, there is no other author who makes me laugh the second time round.

The characters are like old friends, the Igors are just genius, Vimes is everything a watchman should be whilst having so many issues it’s quite exhausting.

A six foot dwarf in love with a werewolf? Oh come on, it’s just brilliant.

Stoopidly genius like.

Typical Simon Pegg, and I loved the fence reference to Shaun of the dead, and the fact that the ending was so absolutely bloody unbelieveable just made me laugh all the more. And the reason I like people who like this? Basically because they have the ability to get over themselves and laugh for the sake of it.

Great soundtrack too.

I didn’t know what to expect from this film, but I really did enjoy it.

Apart from the fact that I really don’t rate Kirsten Dunst as any kind of great talent, she has limited facial expression and she looks like she may fall asleep at any moment, like she bores herself to death or something. I find her difficult to believe as any character other than kirsten Dunst, the girl with no personality, but she tried and I think the story line saved her.

Orlando Bloom was an interesting choice, I have to say, I didn’t think “Elf” at any point, well done that man.

But the film itself was lovely, made you feel all warm inside and remeber how it is when you find that person and all the smileyness you get inside.

Twin Town [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2 Import - Great Britain ]

it’s a great film, see Rhys Ifans (Spike in Notting hill) in his natural habitat. And a very amusing appearance by Keith Allen (Lilly’s dad).

That asides it’s a great story about the underdogs coming through, even if they do it in a completely twisted and totally wrecked way. Twin town is not the Welsh Trainspotting BTW, it’s a class film, it’s very funny and has some of the most quotable lines ever. A gracious nod towards the pot heads knicking cars culture that anyone in the UK should be familiar with.

Hotdogs for tea then?
