‘Eric’ was not exactly the best of Discworld books. I felt the writing was a little subpar, the content was very light (I read this in just about 3 hours), and I felt there were holes that even Pratchett would normally have filled. Gotta collect `em all, but only read if you’ve already gotten through ‘Sourcery’ and are dying for Rincewind’s follow up adventure.

Bester’s work on “The Stars My Destination” is just amazing. My one complaint turns out to be unfounded, as this book was released 5 years prior to “Stranger in a Strange Land.” I found many of the literary devices were quite similar, but, I can’t blame Bester for being 5 years ahead of Heinlein.

Something about the combination of Peter David’s writing and the acting we’ve grown up with from John de Lancie gives this book an amazing visual aspect. Add that to David’s descriptive, intelligent, and often funny writing, and you get something that is out of this world (no pun intended)!
Having the two work on the book together, I feel, gave David a chance for a better look inside of the Q character and gave de Lancie a better chance to look at it from a distance.
Anyone familiar with TNG should pick this book up and enjoy it. That’s both a command and an endorsement.
