A review of "Henry VIII"

Henry VIII

by Pete Travis

But I still liked it… after all, if you can’t go over the top with Henry VIII when can you? Wives heads were flying and breasts were everywhere. Even my husband sat through the whole thing (could have something to do with the breasts, I suppose). Maybe not History Channel quality, but definitely an entertaining period film.

A story about "Trespassers on the Roof of the World: The Secret Exploration of Tibet (Kodansha Globe)"

Trespassers on the Roof of the World: The Secret Exploration of Tibet (Kodansha Globe)

by Peter Hopkirk

I first bought this book when I was about 16 or so – for some reason I didn’t get around to finishing it until now. It’s really a fascinating read about Tibet and the history of its exploration. I’ve seen those “Free Tibet” bumperstickers around, but never really knew what they meant – this book gave me some insight as to why Tibet is so revered and the history of the Chinese oppression. The author keeps the chapters fairly short and doesn’t get bogged down by too many details – interesting slice of history.

Why I recommend "Dog the Bounty Hunter - The Best of Season 1"

Dog the Bounty Hunter - The Best of Season 1

by Andrew Dunn (VI)

If nothing else, watch this for Beth’s wardrobe. It is a magnificent sight to behold. It is almost WRONG how much I love watching this show. It is completely addicting, even though it’s utterly ridiculous. The Dog says things like “now remember, this fugitive is a fisherman so once he knows we’re after him he’ll run to what he knows, the water… and mermaids.” Hm. Okay. Thanks Dog. So it’s over the top, but unlike a lot of other TV shows you can tell they all love and support each other, so I say Dog is worth your time.

Why I recommend "The River Wild"

The River Wild

by Curtis Hanson

Man oh man, Meryl Streep is so good in this movie! And you can’t beat the gorgeous scenery – it’s set in Colorado or someplace but was shot in Oregon. Absolutely beautiful. And of course, Kevin Bacon is the creepiest creep ever. Great show!

A story about "Sock Yarn"

Sock Yarn

by Sockotta

I am making socks for Christmas presents (actually getting a head start this year!) but accidentially purchased variegated yarn rather than self-striping yarn. So annoying. That’s alright though, because at least it’s in a good boy color… browns and whites and blues. Boy colored yarn is tough to find.

A review of "Pride & Prejudice"

Pride & Prejudice

by Caroline Dale

If you’re looking for some quality background music for homework, work work, whatever – look no further. This CD is really beautiful and makes me feel like I’m walking about the grounds of my manor in England wistfully hoping to run into Mr. Darcy (or something). It’s a bit short, so there is only about 45 minutes worth of music, but it’s something like $9 on iTunes, so it seems a fair price. So glad I bought this!

A story about "Annie Get Your Gun"

Annie Get Your Gun

This movie is rather meh. I love musicals and campy-ness to a point, but I did cringe a number of times while watching this. It’s a fun little movie but I’m pretty sure they managed to offend almost all major ethnic/cultural groups. I realize it was made in 1950 but still… Native Americans just shouldn’t go around saying “ug” in movies, okay? It bothered me enough that I don’t think I want to see it again.
