Why I recommend "Grilled Jumbo Sea Scallops"

Either way, these make a perfect, simple meal for a quiet night at home (served with a with a golden frise salad of some sort and some crusty fresh baked bread). I just don’t think anyone can ever go wrong with these little gems (ordering or making at home). Grilling simply makes the taste pop.

I am totally endorsing the gift-giving potential that this cute, sweet, and informal little bedside table book holds. It’s such a nice reminder of the simple things we can do to improve our daily life, that I am thinking of keeping a few extras around on hand to use as sporadic “Thank You” gifts throughout the year (and not simply as presents this holiday season).

A great little book to have and enjoy.

New flavor or simply hard to find? Blueberries and Cream (rated 5 stars)

It was excellent… Normally I resent the fact that I have to eat yogurt every day (because I am not its biggest fan), but this was a refreshing and light late evening snack. “Creme Brulee” version is now relegated to second favorite. :<del>) Vanilla marks a close third. Lemon Merangue Whips move down the list with Mandarin Orange and Key Lime</del>-edible but less than fascinating.

Why I recommend "fig infused vinegar"

For an extra delight, add thin sliced apple (fuji or braeburn), shelled walnut, and goat cheese crumbles with a sprinkle of dried currants. Light and tasty—excellent alternative in any wine-based vinegar recipe situation if you want to add a HINT if sweet and mellow.

Why I recommend "Toaster Strudel"

Ours don’t normally eat tons of pre-packaged processed foods, so to to have these for the adults as kid suggested treat was unusual. Ours convinced us to try this Pilsbury Toaster Streudel stuff, and it was fun… Apple was suprisingly good for an evening snack and Cream Cheese and Strawberry reminded me of how good it was to be a child and stay home to watch Saturday morning cartoons. God bless the “buy one get one free” Sales Gods or we may never have indulged in this quickie sort of treat. ;-P Bravery to trust the youth’s culinary snack tastes paid off! Definately an “okay” rating for a hot, extremely sweet and probably not good for you at all apperatif. Nothing says lovin’ like….

AN ODD EXPERIENCE (rated 2 stars)

I went expecting something really funny and instead found the film dreary and boring. I am NEVER bored. The only other movie I can think of that was really disappointing like this one was “Be Cool”. I would not watch this film again… it’s not dreadful, just not my preference (but it should of been because I typically find humor in dark comedy). Perhaps I simply missed some “artistic” drama angle the director was trying to convey, but I am not curious enough to rewatch on a video to even spend my time trying to find out. My feelings were “disappointment” for the lost change to see the film when it first came out and “regret” for the loss of 2 hours when I could have been out laughing under the stars someplace.

My son has never seen it so while it is on TV this morning we are putting our plans for the day on hold, chilling out with the family and watching it together now while eating a big yummy breakfast together. All boys need to see this military movie—fun, funny, and PG-13 sexy. Discipline, duty, honor, and courage come in all forms… and Ladies? Never underestimate the power of a cute guy with a spatula.

Americana, folks; “Stripes” and the Cold War has become a part of the cultural collective experience. I have also come to believe that the characters in “Stripes” should be the poster children for the gifted child movement (LOL to us all equally afflicted with memories of our underappreciated folly from our exhuberant youth).

Happy 43 everybody! Watch a good movie this afternoon.

http://www.sengifted.org/articles_counseling/Webb_MisdiagnosisAndDualDiagnosisOfGiftedChildren.shtml

What fun is life without strolling down memory lane and having a wholeheartedly good laugh or two? Cheers to those gifted characters in “Stripes”. Any modern army could use a few more good men (and women) like you.

A story about the last time I consumed "Shabu-Shabu"

Shabu-Shabu

Rockville, Maryland has the most unusual and fun new culinary hot spot: “Bob’s 88 Shabu Shabu”<del>-all locals, all Asians, absolutely wonderful. Make reservations, arrive early, come hungry. It is a new place that looks like a dive but the food is unreal</del>-so good, so plentiful, so fresh, so perfect—and the service was fantastic, too. We had a great time being the only token caucasians. Everything turned out to be perfect (in atmosphere and service) and all the food tasted divine!

The drive this fall was beautiful and so worth the trip; the restaurant is an easy jaunt from 495 to 270 and then into the heart of the historic downtown center. Elders and children will delight in the pan-asian authenticity of the food; cooking and seasoning your own pot of soup at the table, combined with the freshness of the ingredients, made it a home-style family oriented delight. As the cooking process takes a while and the lines are so long, “Bob” has thoughtfully extended the dinner hours to one o’clock in the morning—a plus for night owls or those hoping to avoid any rush hour traffic.

Proper Shabu Shabu is like having a little taste of Nirvana delivered in a steaming hot pot of broth. If you are within four hours of Rockville, I promise the gastronomic adventure is well worth the trip. I will be adding the information to find the place onto 43places.com as a destination in Maryland with the hopes of encouraging patrons—but from the look of long lines wrapping out of the building when we left, I would say (to quote my mum to Bob), “It looks like [they] already have a winner!”

Note to non-Asians: Be sure to give a proper bow (or appropriate sign of courtesy) to all the staff and owners when you go; your best manners and patience with any language barriers will be richly rewarded. They are really out doing themselves to cater to the public at Bob’s 88 SHABU SHABU!

A story about the last time I consumed "kraut dog"

kraut dog

by stevestuff

You have to do these dogs right… cheap stuff does not work the same. Get real New York style dogs from the butcher and some German Barrel Kraut. Steamed fresh bakery rolls, and personally I like a thin layer of toasted Ementhaller Swiss over the top (and fresh cracked pepper with the dogs).

You will want a German mustard (probably something stout or grainey)—or if mustard is not your thing then a Hot Ketchup. Of course, a fine china plate used as if you are in Vienna at a streetside stand helps set the mood… Hot Dogs for some odd reason always seem to taste better when eaten standing up.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "Dude, Where's My Car?"
