A story about "The Hour of Bewilderbeast" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve enjoyed this album, whose flow follows the course of a new relationship through to its dissolution. The album works as a whole, but there are a few good standalone songs as well.

Brilliant brilliant brilliant. But then, Jon Stewart was already my hero before I picked up this book.

A story about "Lullaby : A Novel" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I read this book by flashlight during a hurricane after the power went out in my apartment. It freaked. me. out.

A story about "Emotional Design: Why We Love (Or Hate) Everyday Things" — 4 years ago

I’ve been struggling with this book for a while, actually. The subject is interesting enough, but the author tends to repeat his points quite a bit, making it difficult for me to maintain my interest. I set it aside a while ago, but may make another go at it.

A story about "The Phantom Tollbooth" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It’s amazing how wonderfully subversive children’s literature can be. The Phantom Tollbooth is fun and literate and imaginative reading for adults and children alike.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t know that this book holds up to repeated perusals, but it’s certainly an enjoyable read the first time through. I love Hornsby’s prose.

A story about "The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Absolutely fascinating. It loses steam partway through, at which point Gladwell seems to start repeating himself and belaboring his point(s). However, the first few chapters, with the discussion of “mavens” and “connectors” and the section about the research behind Sesame Street and Blues Clues were so utterly fascinating that I couldn’t put the book down.

A story about "The Nightly News Nightmare: Network Television's Coverage of U. S. Presidential Elections, 1988-2000" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

One of the authors was a professor of mine in graduate school. Nightly News Nightmare posits that the “problem” with television news isn’t bias - which, when present, most people can recognize and mentally correct for - but rather quality, with less coverage, minute-for-minute, of presidential campaigns, more of that time dominated by anchors and correspondents, and less time devoted to examination of the candidates and important issues.

A story about "The Weblog Handbook: Practical Advice on Creating and Maintaining Your Blog" — 4 years ago

I’ve been blogging for a while, so the concepts covered in this book seemed fairly elementary to me. However, it might be a useful reference for someone who doesn’t understand blogs or is otherwise new to blogging.
