Sort of whimsical and stupid, I can’t see what the fuss is about the author. Maybe “Number One Ladies Detective Agency” is a better book.

I’ve used both the Lonely Planet “Cycling France” and “Cycling Britain” books, in both cases I’ve found that although the books are good, the maps are fairly poor and hard to follow.
Read all but one of the short stories. The language in the Joseph Conrad story “Billy Budd” was such heavy going that I gave up
Light-hearted and entertaining, but with enough ideas to give people something to think about.

A spur of the moment purchase from one of the second-hand book stalls at the lunchtime market.
English, interspersed with French, Italian, German and Latin… I can only seem to take a few pages at a time and then my head swims from Umberto Eco’s use of language. I love the language, but sometimes just have to let it wash over me rather than try to understand it all.
Once again, I’m actually reading a different version from a different publisher, but allconsuming is incapable of finding that version’s ISBN.
