Almost as horrifying as Another Part of the Wood. She is brilliant.
Though I´ve read other Ballard books, I wanted to read this in particular because I had been intrigued by the few peeks I managed to steal during commercial breaks while watching the live telecast of the New Year’s fireworks from the Bridge in Sydney. I have been looking for it since. And it more than lived up to my expectations. No sentimentalising, no nostalgia, no compromises.
I first read this (albeit halfway) in school, and never forgot the overcrowded atmosphere, the copulation with clothes on, and the long long sentences.
Nothing is as good as persepolis-1 but this was delightful in its own way.
Good entertainment. Full stop. Loved Papa’s comment on governments.
Loved it for its uncompromising treatment, though wary of it for the same reason. Not major league, but definitely worth watching.
