WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m surprised at how many people don’t like this film. But then, I’m a sucker for movies that don’t have stories per se, but rather an atmosphere, maybe. And this has great great music, immediately ripped the music only 21 minutes into my player.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Unpretentious, sad, very probable and convincing. Just the right size. Well edited, though I did get a bit lost once in a while in the shifting back and forth in time.

A story about "My Best Friend's Wedding" — 3 years ago

Not bad. Though honestly I was too busy gawking at Julia Roberts when I wasn’t gawking at Rupert Everett.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It riles me that all we choose to remember about him is the national anthem and the Nobel. He is easily one of my favourite political thinkers. So ahead of his time. Amazing that he was sceptical about the idea of a nation in those heady times. Presages the ideas of Fanon and Andersen by decades.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Easily one of my favourite narratives of all times. That includes ‘Antoine and Colette’. And the Criterion DVD has the most brilliant footage of Jean Pierre Leaud’s audition. At 14 he’s already enthralling – you can’t look anywhere but at him.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Hilarious! Somewhat darkly so, but funny. Both the girls were great.

Who else can make ‘Want to see you only in your underwear’ sound poignant?

WORTH CONSUMING!

Was disappointing. But still fun in the scatty Welsh way.

A story about "Red Earth and Pouring Rain: A Novel" — 3 years ago

Well. You certainly have to hand it to him for his ambition, and the sweep of the story. I read most of it in about 36 hours and finished a few minutes ago, so am still reeling from it. But it is amateurish, not a real novel with a wholeness. It was disjointed, badly written in parts, lots of loose ends, and the exoticisation is jarring. But on the whole, I enjoyed it a lot more than the usual pretentious shit we get to read.
However, it is way too big to be Worth Consuming. Should certianly have been pared down.
