A story about "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Penguin Classics)" — 5 years ago

This, and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are two essential items in any dreamers/thinkers/adventurers library.

A story about "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Penguin Classics)" — 5 years ago

Fun. Outrageously delinquent. Gritty. And beautiful.

A story about "The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother" — 5 years ago

Testament to the laws of determination and character, this book is a poignant, often heartbreaking and always intriguing account of one unlikely family growing up to be a triumphant example of what we’re all capable of despite the most tangled odds and circumstances. Loved it.

A story about "Fine Things" — 5 years ago

While WAY outside the genre of books I’d usually get into, Fine Things was a book a friend of mine read to me while I was sick at one time and in bed for several days. Having gotten into the story at that point, I of course wanted to finish—so I went out and bought it myself. I was impressed with the character development and low-key drama and disappointment of the lives of its characters, and the non-romance-novelism in comparison to other books in its class.

A story about "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" — 5 years ago

I enjoyed the book, but was left with that “movie build-up” feeling after closing it, having been pointed to it as such an illuminating text from so many people. It fell slightly short for me.

A writer, painter, life-questioner – I adore Natalie’s work. This book is fun and funky!

A story about "Start Small, Finish Big: 15 Key Lessons to Start--and Run--Your Own Successful Business" — 5 years ago

In this fun, incredibly encouraging book – Fred DeLuca (co-founder of Subway) gives readers 15 great reasons to quit saying “someday” and start saying “today”. Highlighting the success stories for some unlikely entrepreneurs, he reminds us that nearly every successful businessperson has behind them a story exactly like ours: of dreams and days full of anything but following them. Until we make that change, and leap of faith. Some of the stories in this book have resulted in multi-millionaires, others in modest but very comfortable small business income. But they all have one thing in common—they were ordinary people with ideas. Even my 13 year old son loved this book, and immediately started dreaming up all the ways he could start his own business.

A story about "Life Among the Piutes: Their Wrongs and Claims" — 5 years ago

Living in Northern Nevada, the legends and contributions of Sarah Winnemucca to the history of our area were widely recognized. Winnemucca acted boldy and bravely by attempting to provide translation and mediation between whites and natives during the encroachment of Piute territory – which inadvertently turned her into both hero and traitor on both sides. Rich, authentic story with very little ‘mainstream’ editing.

A poignant, sometimes funny sometimes disturbing and always engaging novel about choice, and chance.

A story about "Ready for Anything: 52 Productivity Principles for Work and Life" — 5 years ago

Love how the book is separated into small, bite-sized chapters – and dives deeper into why the ideas in his first book [Getting Things Done] work as well as they do. The book offers sound, but casual, advice for anyone in nearly any line of work. If you have multiple thoughts and commitments hanging in the air at any given time, if you have trouble juggling the daily influx of information, if you’ve ever wondered ‘how does everyone else get this stuff done’—you’ll kiss this book before you walk away.
