But even with the comparison it is an enjoyable experience and a compelling story, it is just that where Evangelion was (besides the giant robots and invaders and stuff) a deeply personal story of Hideaki Anno’s fight against depression Rahxephon has less depth. But still, worth watching.
dead-pan delivery, over-the-top insanity, tacky 60s super-”hero” characters with serious personal issues, outlandish plots that go absolutely nowhere, this show has it all. Fantastic.
While the main portion of the documentary was intriguing I feel that as a whole it would have been a lot better if the creator wouldn’t have let his resentment against his former school take control. This is especially obvious near the end. Still, interesting to watch.
Hey, and at least Parker didn’t spend half the movie whining about how tough his life is with his superpowers.
Sandman and Venom were cool, in fact, the special effects dept. really pulled out all the stops for this one. Was Venom really introduced in this lame way in the comics (I don’t recall)? I mean, a meteorite slams into the ground right next to Parker (what are the odds?), hitches a ride with him on his moped, lives in his house for a while? I mean, yes, superhero stories, not real life but even for superheroes this was stretching it a bit?
Anyway, enjoyable if empty calories.
Gervais and Merchant explore the awkward and mine it for comedy. They do this very well. Like the original ‘the Office’ I don’t think this will work for everyone but I thought it was hilarious.
I was rushing through the airport, already late for my flight, when I realised I had not gotten something to read. Since the flight attendants always insist I turn off my ipod and Nintendo DS (heaven knows, I might crash the plane because I was playing Mario Kart DS) I usually grab some paperback. I would not have picked this one normally but as I said, I was in a rush.
I enjoyed it, and some of the concepts it used were definitely interesting, but on the whole it wasn’t a stunner or a classic.
I don’t care if I am only at episode 4, this is some of the best steampunk anime out there. High production values and a gripping storyline from the get-go, you should watch this.
Even though I think Kristin Kreuk is dead cute, she couldn’t save this stinker. Nobody could. Ye flipping gods, I want my time back. Words cannot convey how horribly Ursula Le Guin’s story was slaughtered.
Not much, admittedly, but I still enjoyed this movie. And really the CGI looked quite amazing to me. There were some stunning scenes. And I had a couple of good laughs.
