A story about "The Testosterone Files: My Hormonal and Social Transformation from Female to Male"

The Testosterone Files: My Hormonal and Social Transformation from Female to Male

by Max Wolf Valerio

Wow. This is a real mind-bending book. Max shows a side to the nature nurture gender debate that I had never seen before. It was so interesting to see how his perspective on feminism and gender roles shifted as he transitioned into a man. It is a truly unique point of view, having experienced being hormonally female and male, Max is able to concretely state what is, for him, based solely on a lack of, and then on an abundance of, testosterone. Who knew!

Why I recommend "A Prayer for Owen Meany (Modern Library)"

A Prayer for Owen Meany (Modern Library)

by John Irving

This is one of my favorite books of all time. It is Irving’s best (although Until I Find You is a close second). I have read it 3 or 4 times and it pulls me in everytime. the characterization, the plot twists, Irving is a master of detail. This is one of those books that you find yourself thinking about randomly, even years after you read it.

Why I recommend "The World According to Garp"

The World According to Garp

by John Irving

What a fabulous book! If you are new to John Irving, then this is the place to start. Irving is a writer who repeats himself alot, i. e. similar themes and characters between books, but his characterization is so superb that you won’t even care. He creates a world that the reader will fully inhabit.

A story about "Ariel - Poems by Sylvia Plath"

Ariel - Poems by Sylvia Plath

by Sylvia Plath

I carried this book around in my backpack every day for about 2 years. It is such a beautiful piece of work, so poignant. It will forever take me back to that particular place in my life, the emotions I was experiencing and the people I was around.
