A surprisingly interesting read even for people not informed about the subject.

The book on the subject. Lots of great projects with stories by the people who run them, all under one cover.
A relatively boring book, the author has a way of taking up pages on a subject whose salient facts should only take a few sentences. For the most part you can skip the chapters in the first section and just read the last one to get the idea. If you’re interested in how complex systems develop from simple rules, I’d recommend Emergence by Steven Johnson instead.
Fun.
