WORTH CONSUMING!

Thank you to Matt Phillips for the rec.

I tried to find this before I went to Poland, but I’m glad I read this after I came back. Having seen Auschwitz and other camps, and met Holocaust survivors, I’m able to visualize this book more. It’s very powerful in its understated imagery. I love the personal and metacommentary. It’s deeply reflective and introspective.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I learned about the movie and book from Roger Ebert’s Great Movies II. He wrote a very nice review of it. I read the novel first, and I enjoyed that. This adaptation does the book justice. Both of them have the same maudlin and sad nostalgia that everyone may not appreciate, but they are lovely. The movie is a beautiful period piece. Burt Lancaster said this was his best work, and he captures the character very well. If you like sentimental, beautiful, historical, foreign movies, I’d recommend this.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Something led me to believe this was nonfiction, but it isn’t. Though it had it’s funny moments once in awhile, I didn’t enjoy the book very much.

A story about "X&Y" — 7 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Agreed. Not as good as “Rush of Blood…”; not enough variety or memorable songs as the last. Hope they do better next time, but yes, it does grow on you.

A story about "The Griffin & Sabine Trilogy Boxed Set: Griffin & Sabine/Sabine's Notebook/The Golden Mean" — 9 years ago

So lovely, and beautiful.

A story about "Lyra's Oxford" — 9 years ago

A nice book for anyone who loved the trilogy.

A story about "The Gryphon: In Which the Extraordinary Correspondence of Griffin & Sabine Is Rediscovered" — 9 years ago

I love these books.

A story about "Paris Out of Hand: A Wayward Guide" — 9 years ago

A nice drolatique book that’s cute and imaginative.

A story about "The Making of C S Forester's Horatio Hornblower" — 9 years ago

Yes, I do love the TV series. The author is rather cliched and contrived, but it’s good content if you like the series, and makes you appreciate it much more.

A story about "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" — 9 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoyed reading this book. I really like the movie too.
